The Somali Civil Aviation Authority should make it mandatory for all airlines operating flights to Somalia to provide announcements in the Somali language. This is important not only to ensure passengers are properly informed for safety and security purposes, but also to uphold the country’s sovereignty and protect its cultural identity. During my recent flight from Nairobi to Mogadishu, I observed that announcements were made only in English. I raised this concern with the pilots and flight attendants, encouraging them to communicate with passengers in their native language. Therefore, the Somali authorities should issue clear regulatory guidelines requiring the use of Somali in all onboard announcements.
