@JFraserForensic Hi Jim, good job you keep on top of the documents highlighting the importance of forensic science to the investigative process coupled with the inadequate awareness by those who need to know! I would like a copy please.

Was it really said on BBC1 Question time last night (17th March) that Marks and Spencer are still operating in Russia? Surely that can’t be true, can it?

On the 31/3/2022 it will be 10 years since the official closure of the FSS. Some will say good riddens but there will be some, like me, who view the loss of 6 integrated, fully accredited forensic labs, a research facility as a tragedy. How our forensic industry has changed.

@JeSuisTC @CharterForSci 18/ I wish the CEO well also. CSFS with its various publications, it’s the peer reviewed journal (impressive IF), successful educational accreditation scheme, working with QAA setting educational benchmark, competency testing for police forces and supporting SME’s with their QMS

@ctmccartney You will be fine Carol. You know and understand forensic science. As long as that ethos comes across to the Lords that will be good.

Listening to House of Lords Forensic Science review - talking about research. The elephant in the room how to make research top down rather than bottom up - doing what people like as opposed to what the investigators and courts need #UKHouseofLords

@HarryYorke1 Interesting article/grade inflation. Key to ID grade inflations are external examiners. Unfortunately EEs are usually in the academic arena. In my experience as an EE it can be the university marking framework which causes the problem. Shame the Framework isn’t national.

Grade inflation has surged since 90s and is one of the biggest threats to value of a British degree (1 in 4 students now get firsts). For an idea of why trend has worsened in recent years, see here: telegraph.co.uk/education/2017…

Good to see @SamGyimah taking firm action on grade inflation. New TEF criteria means unis will now have clear incentive to take action against artificial boosting of grades. Summit also being called for HE bodies/watchdogs to improve standards across board telegraph.co.uk/politics/2018/…

Great week, really enjoyed talking to final year forensic science students @UCLanSFIS about why ‘forensic’ is so important and it’s impact on our science at the scene, in the lab and at Court. I enjoyed the interactive quiz at the end.
