C. Sandbatch (Best Selling Poet)
These however depict Alexandria, LA in the current decade and make that one in Virginia look like the Peabody hotel.

@CSandbatch This photograph depicts a street of blighted properties in Roanoke, Virginia, captured in 1966 by the Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority.

I'm a full-blown outsider to the world of the South, but it does seem to me that whatever the South's best qualities are -- Louisiana does them the best. I can't think of what one would find in another Southern state that could really be better than Louisiana. You know, you go to Georgia and it feels 'stuffier'. You ride around Alabama and people are pretty leery. The Carolinas just feel like Southern New Jersey but hotter; a lot of Mississippi is just sad. But Louisiana? Best state in the South by far, as far as I could ever tell. Realest people. Fewest plasticky subdivisions. Best food. Cajun culture. Friendliest folks (in my own experience). I'm very glad I do not live there but when I go there, I am happy to visit and am sad to leave it. Thus far I have not been able to say the same of any other Southern state (unless you count Texas). No disrespect to the rest of the Southern states. I've just got to say though that from where I stand, Louisiana is the "GOAT" of the South.

I have been fortunate enough to have lived in different corners of our wonderful region so I am going to make a hyper-regional map of the south and then build a website providing histories of each region as I collect more of them. This is a first (extremely rough) draft.

Every event in NOLA is like 12 they/thems from Iowa celebrating the music of a 1950s black dude that had 10 kids out of wedlock & killed more than one Mexican with a beer bottle.

Really wish I could’ve met the gentleman whose estate sale I visited. I’ve never recognized so close a kindred spirit just by the things he chose to collect.

@RolandGunnTN This is the most bizarre to me. But I haven’t seen a good example on here just yet.

In a lot of the South we see a dynamic where “contractor Americans” form a new “planter class.” There is a set of hicklibs who got better grades in high school, maybe even went to state college, but are now underemployed or maybe high school teacher, who make considerably less money than the Contractor class who absolutely despise and resent them.
Roland Gunn 🇺🇸@RolandGunnTN

These are just two ends of the same cultural continuum and with a different socioeconomic situation many can end up going either way.

@RolandGunnTN When I’ve had a long commute before I found myself drifting far into podcast world, for better or worse—as you age your time becomes much more valuable.

Commute time now down to 3 minutes. 3 years ago it was close to an hour. It’s not just about the time you get back, being on the road a lot every day is spiritually/psychologically draining.

@Empty_America Really you can pick a random song on the country charts blindfolded from the 80s and 90s, and there’s either a compelling simplicity or erudition that got lost along the way.

There isn't any secret world of modern country music, no act "you probably haven't heard of" that is better, no "deep cuts" you need to hear. It's all right on the surface, the best stuff is just George Strait, radio classics like "Amarillo by Morning" and so forth.
David Scott Harris@HVNYrefugee

“Amarillo by Morning” is the greatest country song ever written, and the lyrics, “I ain’t got a dime, but what I got is mine, I ain’t rich, but Lord, I’m free” are the greatest lyrics.

Thank the Lord that Mammaw didn’t live to see Southern Living sink this low
The Timeless Traveler@TimelessTrvlr

Southern Living just ranked the 20 best small towns in the South… I don’t agree with #1. Do you? 1) St. Augustine, Florida 2) St. Simons Island / Golden Isles, Georgia 3) Fredericksburg, Texas 4) Fairhope, Alabama 5) Gatlinburg, Tennessee 6) Hilton Head Island, South Carolina 7) Destin, Florida 8) Beaufort, South Carolina 9) Blowing Rock, North Carolina 10) Tybee Island, Georgia 11) Pigeon Forge, Tennessee 12) Bardstown, Kentucky 13) Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, Alabama 14) Oxford, Mississippi 15) Blue Ridge, Georgia 16) Anna Maria Island, Florida 17) Southport, North Carolina 18) Williamsburg, Virginia 19) Sanibel Island, Florida 20) Fernandina Beach, Florida

This is why Trump should have avoided the performative shit posters for positions. We're taking out the world's #1 sponsor of terrorism, and the Director of Counterterrorism is upset about it. He'll be blaming Israel within hours (he already is!!) and go on Tucker shortly.
Joe Kent@joekent16jan19

After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today. I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby. It has been an honor serving under @POTUS and @DNIGabbard and leading the professionals at NCTC. May God bless America.
