Steel is the backbone without which British infrastructure could not function. From the core of our terminal buildings to the rails on which our transport connections run, Heathrow is no exception. We therefore welcome the announcement of the Government’s Steel Strategy, which seeks to preserve sovereign manufacturing capability and the British jobs that come with it, both of which are essential to ensuring we have a reliable source of steel into the future. Last year, Heathrow signed the UK Steel Charter, underlining our commitment to source UK-manufactured steel wherever possible. Last night @ITVNews reported on Heathrow writing to 750 homes impacted by a new runway, offering support. As we say here, residents have pressed for compensation for many years, but their homes have been 'blighted'. They deserve the generous package that will be on offer.

We’ve published Heathrow’s new Air Quality Action Plan, reinforcing our commitment to improving air quality in and around the airport. 🌱 As the UK’s largest port by value, Heathrow is taking a national and international lead on tackling air pollution – one of the UK’s most significant public health challenges. Since 2014, monitored pollutant levels around the airport have fallen by up to 39% and are now below legal limits. The plan brings together the practical steps we’re taking with partners across the airport. We’re going further by expanding monitoring of ultrafine particles, targeting major reductions in both aircraft and airside emissions by 2030. This work goes hand in hand with our net zero by 2050 ambition.
