@CodifyBaseball No but allow him to take his time completely but the count starts 1-0. If he gets out to the mound normally then it’s normal, if not it’s 1-0 no pressure. He already is allowed to stay in as a DH, don’t need to keep bending rules to help him, he got that already.

@CodifyBaseball It’s reasonable that I as a baseball fan believe that the MLB has already done enough to the rulebook for him. Just let him take as much time as he needs and start the inning in a 1-0 count. Fair for both sides if you need extended time you get a small penalty in return.

@rationalyankee I’d be okay if they give him the time he needs, as long as he’s starting 1-0 to the first hitter. Thats what they would do to a normal pitcher tanking time do it to Shohei. He’s unbelievable if he needs time that’s fine but we need to keep the game fair for every player and team.

MLB should absolutely not be allowing Shohei Ohtani more time to warm up than any other pitcher. It’s Ohtani’s choice to be a two-way player. Hitters should not have to wait around for additional time between innings because a guy on the other team can’t get warmed up in the same amount of time as everyone else. Either he can handle the rigors of being a two way player or he can’t. But changing the rules for him is ridiculous.

@JacobsFieldRBW ABS is meant to get the important calls right to prevent total missed calls, when you start to hand out 4 or 5 your going to have teams abuse ABS. A scarce number like 2 and I wouldn’t hate 3 keeps the reason why you’re using it the same without changing the game entirely.

My take is that there’s no reason teams should only get two challenges. The scarcity of challenges is designed to prevent them from being used in low leverage situations. Why? These challenges take maybe six seconds at most. Adding a third or fourth challenge has no downside.

@finkn23 Might be right but that’s only because he was the literal 1# fireman. Also not sure if we could change his role until we fully identify another person to become the closer. Having a set closer is better than by ear, he’s good enough just depends on how to extract the most value.

High leverage does not equal closer. Cade Smith is a fireman, not a closer. They are different roles. You have to evolve how you think of bullpen roles. Cade is a good player. He’s being used wrong.

@finkn23 Well he’s appeared in 12 high leverage playoff games and 7 of them he didn’t allow a baserunner. He finished the year last year 9 for 10 on save opportunities but sure 8 games into the year clearly shows he can’t cut it 🙄

@tlastoria24 Maybe if he doesn’t find his control on his secondary pitches for another 2 weeks. Think the ball is feeling slightly different, hurting a lot of pitchers who rely on splitter/sweeper. Plus his expected FIP is much lower, concern starts in a week or two not yet.

Anyone concerned about Cade Smith? It’s early….but he’s been really inconsistent to start the year. He looks a little heavier to me. Struggling with location. Lots of deep counts. Big misses. Seems the velo may be down some. Let’s hope “it’s just early” and nothing else.
