“There is no justification for Ugandan data to leave the country in order to be accessed by Ugandans. If a user needs to access services such as URA, that data should be available locally not routed through other countries like Kenya.
With a functional national peering exchange, traffic between local networks will remain within Uganda. This ensures faster access, improved efficiency, and eliminates unnecessary dependency on external routes.” ~ Godfrey Sserwamukoko Chairman Internet Service Providers Association.

Exciting time for Uganda’s internet infrastructure 🎉🎉🎉
Today, @NITAUganda1 under the Uganda Digital Acceleration Project- GovNet (UDAP-GovNet) in partnership with the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, have officially launched the National IP Peering Exchange (NIPX) at Speke Resort Munyonyo, great news for Uganda’s Digital journey.
As the country’s first neutral and open Internet Exchange Point, NIPX changes the game by allowing local networks to exchange internet traffic right here in Uganda, instead of routing it through expensive international pathways.
This means we’re finally keeping more of our digital traffic at home.
The benefits are clear and impactful translated through faster internet speeds, lower costs, and a more stable and resilient network.
For everyday Ugandans, this translates to smoother video calls, quicker access to e-services, better online learning experiences, and eventually more affordable data.
This achievement is a key milestone under the Digital Uganda Strategy and Vision 2040, a proud moment for Uganda as we continue building a faster, more affordable, and more sovereign digital nation.
The NIPX is now live and open for all eligible networks to connect and start peering.

I had an engagement with Government IT Officers to reaffirm our commitment to building a streamlined, skilled, and future-ready ICT workforce.
Since 2016, the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance has overseen all government IT and communications officers a strategic decision to bring structure, clarity, and growth to this essential cadre. During the engagement, I emphasized our focus on establishing a standardized framework for roles, titles, and qualifications to ensure consistency and professionalism across all levels of government.
IT officers are not merely system custodians; they are enablers of innovation and key drivers of digital transformation. Their expertise is crucial to the success of digital services and the realization of a digitally empowered government.

Delegates from 10 Eastern and Southern African countries are gathered in Nairobi for a two-day regional workshop hosted by Smart Africa.
This engagement is part of the Bulk Purchase Marketplace (BPMP), an initiative designed to boost digital connectivity for schools and health centers by pooling the purchasing power of member states.
In the words of Dickson Gisiora, Director of Cybersecurity, representing @MoICTKenya:
“This is not just about technology, it’s about transforming lives and building a future where every single African child has an opportunity to thrive in a connected world.”
Stakeholders are actively exchanging ideas, lessons, and insights for impactful implementation. This builds on momentum from a successful West Africa workshop held earlier this month.
