The Italian tourist group at the centre of the viral BTS argument have issued a public apology, saying they were initially too frightened to respond but now recognise that staying silent was the wrong decision. In a video released by the Italian Embassy, representatives of the group asked Thai people for forgiveness over their behaviour. “I know that money cannot buy respect,” one leader said, apologising for offending Thai people and Thai culture. One member also thanked Thailand for welcoming them and said they hoped their apology would be accepted. The video comes after a day of intense online criticism over the confrontation, particularly the remark: “Sorry for bringing money to your country.” It was a little difficult to hear over the wind, but at least the apology everyone was waiting for has finally arrived.

Thai police: BTS victims can file complaints over Italian youths' behaviour
Thailand's police spokesperson says anyone who believes they were insulted or demeaned by the group of Italian youths who allegedly made obscene gestures and behaved disruptively on a BTS train can file a criminal complaint.
Lt. Gen. Trairong Phiwphan said that because the incident occurred in Thailand, any offence committed by foreign nationals is subject to Thai law. He added that videos and photos circulating online could be used as evidence in any investigation.
He also said any decision to revoke the group's visas would fall under the authority of immigration officials if the legal criteria are met. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from all my years living in Thailand, it’s that you don’t mess with Thais. They’ll drag you until every dirty secret comes out. They even got the Italian Embassy to close the comments, and somehow they found the school register with all the students’ names.

The kids shouldn’t even have to leave the country. They didn’t break any laws. They were just a handful of kids acting like assholes for five minutes.
All this is doing is demonstrating why you’ve had about 40 coups in the last century; democracy will never work in a country where disagreements result in mob demands.
