🇺🇸 My preferred lineup foundations for COTA: 📈 FER MCL NOR + PIA/LEC for 3x Why I like it: for teams that can afford this lineup, even with backmarkers, I can’t see there being a better opportunity to use the 3x unless FP1 and SQ springs a massive surprise. Even with MER as the constructor with MCL, I still think that’s perfectly fine as opposed to risk being priced out in future weeks like I have. For those with mammoth $130m+ budgets, I love the idea of VER + NOR if Red Bull look good today. 💰 MCL MER NOR SAI Why I like it: although Ferrari is my preferred constructor to pair with McLaren, there are reports that the Maranello outfit is the only top-four team not bringing upgrades to COTA. If Mercedes look the goods on Friday, they are a nice B Tier asset to hold a bit longer - they have $1.0m to grow in budget until the A Tier whereas Ferrari only have $0.3m. For teams with lower budgets (like me), this could be one such way of covering off multiple B Tier assets with a longer runway for budget growth to target the 3x in Brazil or Qatar. This is the likely approach to target 3x use later in the season, unless a $0.7m price drop for Piastri or Leclerc occurs in the next few races. Sainz is not quite as compelling for a second option on the 3x option as his teammate or Piastri (unless he looks otherworldly today). If I can’t reach PIA/LEC by Qatar, I’ll settle for Sainz then. But I want to give myself the chance to get to Piastri than to write it off immediately. 🍟 Chips 🛞 It has to be the 3x for me if you with how most budgets sit. A dry track fit for overtakes where Verstappen (3 wins in a row), Norris (P2 in 2023) and Leclerc (three top-4 finishes) all have decent records at.
