Not true. People have been fasting for health and spiritual reasons for thousands of years.
And even before that, with the most primitive hunter/gatherers people, they most certainly would be spending many periods fasting out of necessity (no food available).
So either way, humans have always regularly fasted. Fasting is natural for humans.
It's only modern man that thinks you need 3 square meals plus snacks in between.

Your ancestors would never fast voluntarily.
If there was food it has been eaten, no one tried to achieve autophagy by fasting.
No need to starve yourself when you have an abundance of food available.
