I’m making a prediction now: the proposed puberty blockers trial will end up being indefinitely suspended within two years. Why? Because participants will have IQ tests at the outset, then again after a year — and the results will show cognitive stagnation or decline.

In the light of recent legal and regulatory threats, I don’t see how Amnesty International UK will be able to maintain an institutional and published view that organisations, including other charities, rooted in beliefs which are protected in English law, are “anti-rights”

Here, they've said it themselves, they withdrew the complaint because they were advised they were going to lose. Their egos wouldn't have been able to cope with that "As proceedings developed, further issues of law and associated risks became clear."

@proudbiwoman A few years ago I watched people holding amnesty branded signs scream at a human sex trafficking survivor “blow jobs are real jobs” She had been trafficked across the continent of Africa and raped by up to 80 men a day. For YEARS. Spare me about amnesty’s concern for women.

@SVPhillimore @Shilisad1 That’s seems very obviously what happened save that there should have been agreed statements as part of the terms. Having come from practice in E&W jurisdiction to the ROI, I suspect that might been seen as overkill by some colleagues.

I am also very confused. If both parties reached agreement by amicable settlement that the Feile statement is outrageous. If WRN simply backed down that is very disappointing. I am unhappy with the 'spinning' which appears to be coming from every side. Could we please just have a truthful and factual statement about the position?

@ni_wrn @janetpontin I am confused. I read the Feile & Phobail statement & it suggested they had been vindicated by the court. I then read WRN NI statement which suggests a very different outcome. If WRN NI are correct then they should be furious about the F & P statement.

You can still have an opinion on who “won”, irrespective of whether that opinion has any legal significance. WRN NI aren’t appearing at the festival, discontinued the proceedings, and agreed to binding settlement terms not to bring any further proceedings arising from the cancellation, not to attend the venue on the day in question, and not to organise or mount a protest. They’re also bearing their own costs. Féile, for its part, agreed not to pursue costs and to meet WRN NI on a without prejudice basis to discuss future applications. I understand that Féile’s solicitors will present this in a way that paints their client in the best light, but I don’t think it’s credible to suggest they’ve invented settlement terms or materially misrepresented the agreement.

I’ve heard every one of Alison Morris’ points before, as i’m sure @HJoyceGender has. The irony is that people like Alison assume we’re defending an outdated belief system, when in reality we’ve already worked through the arguments. Old view: there are two sexes, and societies impose gender stereotypes. Progressive: ‘Aha! Gender is a social construct. A man in a dress is a woman because he performs feminine stereotypes!’ Us: ‘Yes, gender is a social construct. So why are you entrenching those stereotypes instead of dismantling them? And why should subjective identity override biological sex where safeguarding is concerned?’ They think we’re stuck at the beginning of the debate, and are too lazy to actually look at what we’re saying. We’ve heard the arguments. We just aren’t persuaded by them.

This was a preliminary application for an injunction, not the full action. If the injunction was granted, WRN appeared at the festival and then discontinued the case, they could be liable for Fiele’s legal fees And if the injunction was allowed it would likely contain an commitment for WRN to compensate the festival if their case ultimately failed The court would seek some guarantee that WRN could pay the compensation agreed to prior to granting the injunction Hope that helps xxx

@KarenMc_G @FeileBelfast What you are saying is like someone saying I’ll sell you my car for £1000, then handing over the car and £1000. That’s just not how it works. WRN withdrew the claim because Feile paid them too. Otherwise there wouldn’t be a settlement. The case would just have been dropped

@KarenMc_G @FeileBelfast Ok so obviously no injunction, that’s a legal remedy, not something that can be agreed privately between the parties. The point is WRN AGREED voluntarily to those terms. And the only reason any claimant agrees in those circumstances is because they get paid to agree to it.

@BanrionVI @FeileBelfast Here is how this settlement worked out for the plaintiff. No injunction. No reinstating the event. They agreed not to make any legal moves "WHAT'S SO EVER" against Féile incl. it's officers/ employees/volunteers. Also agreed to "STAY THE F*CK AWAY" from St Mary's on the 4th.
