Little nugget from @HHampel1’s lecture: #PMS2 is regarded differently by some European groups. Lynch syndrome is a highly penetrant condition but PMS2 mutations don’t have high penetrance so maybe it’s not a #LynchSyndrome gene. (1/2) #GREAT2020

After hearing the White House say critical supplies are going to commercial distributors who are then selling them to the states which are begging for help, I called @ltgrusselhonore who commanded federal troops after Hurricane Katrina to get his reaction. Watch this:

@chicagogenetics Need a time study on that. The numbers would probably not surprise a genetic counselor.

@GYRIG As a genetic counselor I have often met with individuals who didn't know before the visit that test results or their fam hx could change their surveillance and cancer prevention options. @HHampel1 is right knowledge is power. #CRCgenetics

Great point. It's always a good idea to make an appointment with a genetic counselor and understand the role testing can have in your health decisions before deciding to get genetic testing. Make an informed decision that's right for you. #CRCgenetics

@GYRIG A9: Too often the decision to pass on having testing is made without having enough info. I would say -learn enough to make an informed decision - meet with a genetic counselor and then decide. #CRCgenetics

Q9: People with known risk factors have many reasons for not wanting to participate in genetic testing: just don’t want to know, fearful results could impact life/health insurance, ignorance is bliss. What would you say to someone who is hesitant to get testing? #CRCGenetics

@GYRIG A7: The discussions and care at the primary care level depend on the provider, their knowledge, interest, and time available. Some providers are excellent coordinators of care for those with hereditary cancer-often working with genetics professionals for updates. #CRCgenetics

Q7: Some health care systems have programs providing genetic testing at the primary care level. As these expand and patient demand grows, is the primary care system equipped to handle discussions with patients about genetics that require medical action? #CRCgenetics

@GYRIG A5: Many aren't aware that costs of clinical CRC-focused genetic tests have dropped, are often covered and multi-gene panel tests for CRC are tools for answers that were not available 10 years ago. #crcgenetics

Q5: Direct to consumer (DTC) tests are all the rage, and the FDA has approved them to test for some inherited cancer genes. What are pros and cons to DTC testing in relation to general cancer and colorectal cancer genetic markers? #CRCgenetics
