@Larry_Boa Schriffen and Plesac is the best post-Benetti booth combo they’ve put out there so far

Schriffen's contract is up after the season. Let him go and put Connor McKnight in the booth with Stone. It's 1000 times a better broadcast and won't cost Jerry an extra nickel.

@Freedom_Fryz @JoshJunker2 You’re correct that City Council would never allow this because it’d be a giant invitation for teens to gather downtown Friday and Saturday nights, loiter around, and cause chaos and mayhem while repelling other potential customers

@JoshJunker2 LMAO do you really need to be reminded that Cincinnati can't have nice things? A Cineplex like that would be dependent on suburban visitors and they know a crime magnet when they see one.

WLWT TV this morning reported a shooting right in the heart of downtown at 7th and Walnut around 2:30 this morning. Yet another late-night shooting in the vicinity of a nightclub/lounge.

Turning to you for help. I'm looking for a segment name: I'm trying a new segment on Extra Innings. It's a short segment that brings up a random #Reds player from the past. I put together notes, stats, trivia, moments, etc. The idea is to simply spark a memory, maybe a meeting, and discuss the player. I used Adam Dunn, Tracy Jones and Jay Bruce this week. I started with "Reds Remembered" That's not bad, but kind of makes it sound like the player is no longer with us. I kind of like Reds Retro. Ideas?

🚨 do you understand what New York City just accidentally admitted.. NYC spent $81,705 per homeless person last year.. the median American household earned $81,228.. the government spent MORE to keep someone homeless than most families earned to keep themselves housed.. that $81,705 isn't going to the homeless person.. it's going to the system around them.. shelters, administrators, case managers, contracts, overhead.. the industry that manages homelessness.. not the end of it.. if NYC gave every homeless person that money directly.. they could afford nearly 2 years of rent.. most of them wouldn't be homeless anymore.. instead the money goes to the system.. the system keeps running.. the homelessness stays.. and every year they ask for more funding to manage the problem that the funding was supposed to solve.. the homeless are worth $81,705 a year to the system.. they're worth nothing to it solved..

love when people claim they can walk the route faster than the streetcar, because it's a sure sign they have no clue what they're talking about

@prostreetcar The City was, however, quick to install speed humps here that no one asked for, under the cover of night, and done by idiots, obviously, because they made the humps curb-to-curb with nowhere for storm water to go. We are ruled by devious retards.

This guy has lost the plot. The streetcar enables Cincinnatians to have a place where they can live car-light and save money for better housing, health care, or a child's eduction. And gain an hour or more a day living a full life without the highway monoculture. It's great.
Chris Mattlin@chrismattlin

@prostreetcar Imagine thinking that a streetcar that serves two neighborhoods is "an alternative to the highway economy". Fuck those other 50 neighborhoods, amirite?

@rose_bookie @700wlw @CityOfCincy … Even in a much denser city like Chicago, you might struggle to get a midday L train at better than 10-minute intervals. Asking for a large coverage area with short intervals in non-dense Cincy where the level of demand isn’t there may be asking for too much.

@rose_bookie @700wlw @CityOfCincy The best timing intervals the streetcar gives on its small loop are around 15 minutes. Expanding the coverage area means they’d really have to ramp up the # of cars to keep intervals from being excessively bad. Continued …

After 10 years Washington DC is shutting down the streetcar to save money. Could @CityOfCincy do the same to deal with a growing budget deficit? The Cincinnati Connector costs the city about $6 mil per year to move an average of 2700 people a day from OTR to Downtown.

@rose_bookie @700wlw @CityOfCincy Metro routes 78, 46, 17 and 19 all provide service surrounding UC’s campus to OTR and downtown, at a low cost of $2.20. Why spend exponentially more to build a fixed-route service covering the same area that is already well served?

@prostreetcar @JEOII @700wlw @CityOfCincy What would that look like in an apples-to-apples comparison where just streetcar cost is compared solely to the buses doing a downtown loop? Keep in mind the buses need no upfront costs for tracks, etc.

@BarflyBill @JEOII @700wlw @CityOfCincy The cost per ride on Metro's bus system is, according to Gemini ai, $13.72 per passenger, over twice what the streetcar costs per passenger. One of the reasons is that a major cost of any transit system is the operator. The streetcar spreads that cost over many more passengers.

@U_arctos @JeffCatalfino It’s an old-time expression meaning all activity dies for the night as soon as workers commute home for the evening. Basically describing how downtown was a generation ago before the Banks existed and before OTR was turned into a more viable residential and entertainment zone

@ApplegateVince Reds and Bengals games are its most useful days, but to my knowledge there is no ramp-up in service on those high-pedestrian days. You’ll wait the same 15 minute intervals (at least) as you would on a deserted weekday mid-morning

@still_hustling People need to be honest about what the streetcar is. It’s a free Uber for barhopping and a roving warming/cooling center for vagrants depending on the season. Most useful after sporting events, but svc not ramped up those days. Worth the $$? Eye of the beholder, I suppose.

How do you guys feel about the streetcar? I think if you can't expand it you need to pause it. This is a lot of money wasted that could be going to solve real issues the City of Cincinnati is facing.
