Playoff Points were their ONLY reason for existing and now that they're gone, when they easily could've been kept and renamed to Chase Points, stages now serve zero purpose other than adding unnecessary downtime.
This time limit is only a factor BECAUSE of mandated breaks.

@BaseballWRLD_ If the pitcher was guaranteed to have this exact outing every single time (no possibility of more or less runs in an inning) it would have value. As a closer when up 2+ runs, or as an innings eater when you’re up big

Weird question. Realistically how valuable would a pitcher who only and ever gives up one run each inning he pitches would be? Like he gives up a homer to the first batter then 1-2-3 rest of the inning

@MLG1958 @WhoDeLaCruz That would be ultra aggressive and I don’t see them doing that with a catcher. His bat could be ready this year, but his defense probably isn’t and if you rush him he may never be a passable defensive catcher.

@MLG1958 @WhoDeLaCruz Duno is absolutely their future. But I don’t see him in the Majors any earlier than mid-2027, if not 2028.
Like I said, the *immediate* replacement (rest of this year, start of next year) is not in the organization.

@spmancuso I didn’t see it, but are we sure Friedl’s came from Francona? He seems to bunt on his own a lot and it almost never seems to be a great idea when he does.

Neither sacrifice bunt mattered in producing Reds runs this game. All Francona did was throw away two outs.

Stephenson is still the best catcher above high-A in the organization. If you can acquire a better catcher externally, I’m good with replacing him, but his immediate replacement is absolutely not in the org.

@MattsTake1 Small sample size success, like we saw with Austin Wynns. Give him 100-150 PA and you’ll see why they were able to keep him in the org after a DFA.
I’d be looking at replacing him with Elias Diaz while he’s available.

Since 2023, there have been 610 pitchers who've thrown at least 70 innings in the big leagues. Connor Phillips has the highest walk rate of any of them (16.2%).

Connor Phillips is one of two relievers in all of baseball with at least 10 innings pitched, 8.5+ strikeouts per nine innings and also 8.5+ walks per nine innings.
He has the stuff. He's showing it. But then there's also the walk and the command that shows up on a consistent basis. He also threw that home run pitch right down the middle.
