Since today is the first day of Autumn, here is the Autumn Darter (Etheostoma autumnale). This species of fish is endemic to the upper White River drainage in Arkansas and Missouri, where it can be found in small headwater creeks in a variety of habitats. 📸: Uland Thomas.

Meet the Rainbow Darter! 👋🐟 Whether you're microfishing, snorkeling, or combining the two, this is a great first fish to start your lifelist (life list fishing = a great way to celebrate the amazing biodiversity of fish)! Male & female + habitat 📷 Cody Cromer #AllTheFish

I spent the day with undergraduates sampling creeks in central Maryland, discovering several Greenside Darters (Etheostoma blennioides), an introduced species in the Potomac River Watershed. This underscores the need to avoid transporting wildlife across state borders #NISAW

Your pet store goldfish after two years in the wild: ‘Call me Megalodon.’ This goldfish isn’t supposed to be here. But someone released it, thinking they were being kind. Instead, they created an invasive problem that can last decades.
