I'm sad to hear that Prof. Takeshi Amemiya of @Stanford has passed. He was a brilliant econometrician and gifted teacher. As a student, I took several classes with him. My favorite memory: Whenever a student would ask him a hard question, he would stop short and stare straight up at the ceiling in awkward silence. Suddenly, when the answer came to him, a look of glee would appear on his face. "Ahh!" he'd say and meticulously write out a fully worked-out proof on the chalkboard. He had such a clean way of thinking about probability, statistics, and econometrics. I will always be grateful for everything he taught me. I wish all comfort to his family and to all who knew and loved him.

@anup_malani I strongly agree. Top privates could easily enroll more students without sacrificing quality.

The top colleges are inefficiently small. They’re non-profit & governed by their faculty, who want elite status, small student populations. Uni’s are a top strategic sector in the US. Our top schools should be bigger & have greater market share.

@jcarterwil Agreed…amazing that the delivery model has basically been the same for 100 years. Finally changing a bit thanks to new innovations. Problem is that people who benefit most (patients) are the one group that is not paying or getting paid!

@BartHamilton1 Healthcare can not scale if it depends on doctors. Time for automation and new service delivery models.

Inflammation is a key source of poor health. How could we measure it at home on a regular basis, like we measure blood pressure or blood sugar?

@jcarterwil Seems like a great opportunity…doctors seem to be of 2 minds here. They want to do high value care, but they don’t want patients to self-diagnose or use other tools to monitor health. In fee for service, healthy visits are high margin!

@BartHamilton1 There are a few inflammatory markers like CRP. We need to expand the markers and correlate them. Opportunity for innovation.

@jcarterwil Interesting that crop insurance has not led to rampant moral hazard in ag, like some health sectors.

@jmwooldridge I figured that Campbell basically did not want to risk injury by playing OT. Lions were pretty locked in to 3 seed assuming Eagles beat Cards the way they should have…turned out to be a bad assumption!

Dan Campbell doesn't deserve much criticism this year, but he's been too risk loving against good teams. Have to kick the FG on 4th and five against the Cowboys. After the illegal touching, you have to kick the PAT. I know, hindsight, but you can't go that much against the odds.

What a way to lose for the Lions.
