@BradJamin3 You do know that she is a SENATOR and the PM is chosen from the House of Reps you do know that do you not? Pauline a Senator CANNOT become PM So why lie. I do not see you asking for the law to be changed so that it would be lawful for a senator to be pm are you stupid or a liar.

@jesushobo @BhagsNStonks @undefinedhandle What do you mean maybe 70 it’s already 70. Labor is 100% going to close the super eligibility gap and for sure the pension age will raise in the next 30 years.

@TonyMemandqvy @88888sAccount And what, exactly, does the minimum 30% CGT do other than fuck over someone who’s struggled but put away a tiny bit for 30 years and now can’t even retire early on a measly $25k a year without paying 30% tax?

@Basby22 @88888sAccount This is still achievable. Currently the system accelerates wealth for the wealthy. The larger tax burden on the lower middle class by comparison makes it more difficult to build wealth. Tax concession are paid by those working for a living, that can’t yet access them.

I’m often asked about the relative harms of cannabis and I say this: “Would you rather come across a group of drunk people in a park, or a bunch of stoned people.” We know the answer.

@Steen_Dr @MJBiercuk @TMFScottP What then when you lose your minimum wage job and end up in the gig economy and need to draw down from your investments to stave off homelessness? Does 30% still sound fair?

Really disappointed by the overreach of taxing Capital Gains at a minimum of 30% despite the taxpayers' marginal tax rate. A naked grab, and ignoring the fairness of assessing tax based on the taxpayers' marginal tax rate. Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory #Budget2026

You only feel “gouged” and affronted by “broken promises” if you’ve been on the gravy train of negative gearing and capital gains tax discounts for years. You are not a battler. Don’t even. #budget2026 #auspol

@TonyMemandqvy @88888sAccount Can you not envisage a world where people are either financially destitute or obscenely rich? Does it not occur to you that there is a lower middle class trying to build just a tiny bit of wealth, being beset on all sides of the economy?

Jim Chalmers says when the LNP introduced the CGT discount in 1999, they “fundamentally distorted how investment happens” by “encouraging ppl to pile into existing housing” which pushed prices up & locked young ppl out.💥 The 27-year free ride is finally over. #auspol

For a progressive govt, the new 30% *minimum* tax on Capital Gains - regardless of income level - is purely regressive. 30% tax from the first dollar of income. Imagine the outcry if they (or their opponents) did that on wages! Did they even ask an expert? #Budget2026
Scott Phillips@TMFScottP

I've said there's no justification for taxing capital gains more generously than earned income. But there's also no justification for taxing capital gains *less generously* than earned income. The 30% minimum CGT tax rate does just that. Madness. #Budget2026

Love this headline by Peter Hartcher. This budget will be attacked as a nightmare. That’s exactly what the PM wants “This budget is a Labor dream come true. It will redistribute income from investors to workers. It will redistribute real estate opportunity from the prosperous old to the aspirational young. And, because it’s a Labor dream, it’ll be attacked by the Coalition as a nightmare.”

@Stevev5sg @Sauronlordking Ok what if you earn more than $45k, invest money then lose your job. Should you pay 30% tax on the money you take out of your investment so that you can continue to struggle to pay the rent, dip shit?

So if your income is under 45 thousand dollars and do a bit of share investing, you will pay the same tax as someone earning 135 thousand dollars, under the new rules. Who said the Labor party is for the battlers?

@Cassandrasl99 How does minimum 30% cgt help young people get a home? Invest in shares because you can’t afford the $200k deposit, then after 20 years you finally have enough to pay for the deposit but wait! Govo will take 50% of that thanks fam.

@BiripiGuri @RonShamgar I have never voted for liberals in my life but I swear to god I will. I’m fucking poor and tired and just wanted to retire early. I can’t make it to 70 but I could have retired early and lived on $25k a year from investment gains. The 30% minimum cgt is going to fuck me so hard.

@RonShamgar A comical post! If Libs are a 'chance' in 28, we're better off buying lotto tickets or hoping for a miracle. They're not 'near dust' – they're basically a fossil with a pulse. Good luck repealing anything when Libs even find the opposition benches without Google Maps, chump!
