@SABRLions My knowledge of Columbia baseball makes me believe that some of these same or similar traits were seen in your Power 4 victory last night! Conversely, any victory vs Lions baseball should be viewed as a “power” victory by the opponent.

-a grad student put the team first… and got a bunt down off the bench to help win the game. -teammates holding teammates accountable for living out our core values… even when something ISNT happening the way it should. This is when it’s most important!! more… ⬇️

We used 16 out of our available 22 positional players. These kinds of wins are fun! 5 first years + 4 soph’s contributed to the win. A true team effort! A “win now” and “develop for the future” approach can be a tough balance implement. It’s special when it happens. More… ⬇️

We currently have a first-year leading our team in batting avg. In order to accommodate a hot bat, we had to leave that 1st year out of the lineup. His response? “I’ll be ready Coach. I like coming off the bench.” Rare to find that kind of mindset + positive attitude. More… ⬇️

A jr, who was “O” for 4 in the game ended up getting the game-winning walk off hit… as a player myself, I always found that tough games like this really made it challenging to have those fourth or fifth at bats. Our guy had his best at bat of the game. Mentally tough. More… ⬇️

That same IF who came in to play third base entered the game as a pinch hitter in a bunt situation. Put down a perfect bunt, which led to some chaos on the bases. It’s funny how in our game the most important plays offensively sometimes only go few feet! More… ⬇️

Late in the game, we were in a pinch… And a first year infielder came in to play an IF position that he has not repped in nearly the entire year… made an incredible play to start the ninth inning. Gamer. Winning mindset. More… ⬇️

A jr who cannot throw, has embraced his role as a pinch hitter off the bench. He has had only 3 ab’s all year. But they have been three of the most important at bats all season. He has a 100% QUAB percentage. Pinch hitting is one of the hardest things in our game IMO!! More… ⬇️

-a jr shortstop was “on his toes” to make an elite defensive play in the 6/5 hole in that 1st inning… 6-3 putout that gave up a run… but saved the inning bc we got out of the rest of the inning unscathed… More… ⬇️

-a senior was mentally strong enough to pitch through a bases loaded nobody out first inning jam giving up only 1 run… Even one lapse of focus could have put the game out of reach right from the beginning. More… ⬇️

-a grad student recently taken-off his primary position… logged his first innings in his old “main position” mid game… and was physically and mentally ready to make a winning difference and help our pitching staff More… ⬇️

-a jr. was taken out of the game after two tough at bats and a few errors… and immediately helped his younger replacement get situated… gave him some tips. Encouraged him! More ⬇️

-a 1st year warmed up in pen 3 times (not ideal) and waited 30 or more minutes… then came into the game locked in to get 2 strikeouts ending a threat -a 1st year came in as a defensive replacement & made 2 potentially game saving picks at first base in the late inn’s More ⬇️

-a jr was mentally ready to come in off the bench to pinch run (then came right out of the game) and tag up and score from 3rd on a 1st & 3rd popped-up double play (couldn’t make that up if I tried!!!)… All w/ a giant smile on his face. This run helped us win the game. More ⬇️
