Donald Trump cast his own ballot by mail — now he’s moving to strip that same right from millions of Americans. We’ll see him in court.

@LydiaMoynihan This is why we are cooked. If 50% of people pay no taxes, how will any politician be able to cut entitlements.

Reminder to those saying we spend too much protecting against a nuclear Iran and not enough on free daycare: 1. The role of government is to protect its citizens and there is no constitutional right to free daycare. 2. Pouring money into government programs is often the biggest waste. CA & NYC spend ~$100k per homeless person — yet the problem worsens. Many highest-spending states have the worst education outcomes.

@AdamKinzinger But if you keep telling them that nato is essential, there is no leverage to ask for additional spending. History has shown that clearly.

You can agree on two things simultaneously. 1) Europe absolutely needs to increase defense spending and be more self-sufficient. Quick aside: many of their weapons WE make. Good for economy. 2). NATO is essential. Most nato members have increased defense spending, and help Ukraine

@AmeshiaCross Programs like the SAVE plan are just way to make sure interest continues to run up. Hopefully, and it seems to be happening, more students realize that most college degrees simply aren’t worth it. Anything outside of physical engineering or medical have a bad ROI. Learn a trade!

The tragedy here is higher ed is becoming more and more financially out of reach for students and families across the country. As the real costs of college rise (I'm talking beyond tuition) AND work opportunities diminish how can one afford monthly payments higher than mortgages?

@ComicDaveSmith The funny part is I sort of agree more with Adam's position on this subject (but I'm a big fan of yours and a lot of your takes) but he is just so bad at this and not coachable at all. Hopefully PBD moves on from this guy.

@lawofruby But we are the only 1st world (developed) country with it. (Canada isn't really one at this point and they are shielded by us). So it's suicidal for a country in our position to have this policy.

This is beyond disingenuous. I did a good-faith, good-natured debate with @triggerpod's @KonstantinKisin & @francisjfoster, and then they try to fact-check me AFTER by adding in graphs to an interview, which don't even rebut what I said, and now people on the right are trying to act like I was wrong or that I lied about the numbers. Absolute BS. In their clip, as I speak, they show a graph and text on screen claiming "the data contradicts Mehdi's claim, revealing a significant increase in the foreign-born population during Biden's tenure." So? I never said anything about the size of the "foreign-born population." My claim was: "When Biden left office, in 2024, there were fewer people coming in than in Donald Trump's last year in office in the first term. That's just a fact. Go look at the numbers... if there was an open border... why did it come down?" The graph below (click on the WSJ link to see individual monthly numbers) shows exactly what I said. In every one of Joe Biden's last seven months in office, the number of border crossings was lower than in Donald Trump's last month in office in January 2021, the number that Biden inherited. Biden left office with lower numbers than he inherited. That's just a fact. I was right and the @triggerpod folks are wrong. Given they like adding in 'facts' and graphs *after* the interview is over, shouldn't they re-edit this entire interview to also include this graph below? In the interests of fairness and intellectual honesty? wsj.com/livecoverage/t…

@TBestig @adamscochran Biden wanted amnesty to fix a problem that didn’t need a legislative solution to fix. He caused the problem with his executive policies. It’s like lighting a house on fire and demanding money to put it out. Trump didn’t need a law to fix the issue.

Gee - almost as if that's why the constitution has a process for amendments. If you want to amend it, and people actually agree with you, then you can change it. It is not the job of the President nor the courts to do that. The Constitution is a living document but it ONLY changes via constitutional amendment.

@chriswithans I voted for Trump. But unfortunately, the GOP seems to only care about tax cuts. Once they got that, all legislation stopped, so why would most people reward them with another majority. But Trump needs to end this way in April if he wants to keep the Senate for new Judges.

It's been 10 years of Trump. "Normie" voters, the ones who make the differences in midterms, don't fear his actions anymore. And this is his second trifecta. It's a weak one because the House majority is narrow. That means they weren't able to pass any bills that "scare" Democrats. No skinny repeal passed the House like in 2017-18. The biggest midterms this century were 2006, 2010, 2018. In 2010, people were furious about a healthcare law passed and signed into law by Obama. And they were uncertain about what else he and his Congress would do. Thus a huge "wave" against Democrats. In 2018, people thought TCJA was actually increasing their taxes. And they feared losing their healthcare, the one they claimed to hate just a year ago. Thus a D+8.6 environment, though polarization had set in enough that the Senate didn't change much except for Arizona and, counter-intuitively, Florida. But again, people "on the left" and "center" don't really fear Trump like 2018. It's not genuine. It's performative. It's to make money and win elections. The fear is not real. There's no Mueller now. Clinton is hanging around claiming she was the victim of Russian assets. People really aren't talking about World War III. Yes, even with Iran today, they're not talking about World War III. 2026 is really looking more like 2022. Biden too entered with a small majority. Couldn't really pass any dramatically impactful bills like the unAffordable Care Act. No one was receiving cancellation notices from their private insurers in 2022. And of course, Biden was both so old and so embedded into the American consciousness that no one "on the right" or "center" genuinely feared him like the newer Obama. And thus, despite the polling fake out in the final two weeks, the election was just a meek R+3 environment with no incumbent losses at all in the Senate. Yes, inflation hit 9.1%. Gas hit $5, and $6 in some states. Russia invaded Ukraine. But the "fear of the president" just wasn't there. Pelosi wasn't saying she needed to pass the bill before signing the bill. Harry Reid didn't have a near filibuster-proof senate majority that desperately needed to be broken apart. What about 2014? That's possible too. But voting is easier than ever, so turnout is unlikely to ever collapse. And Republicans still party of Whites and older voters. they turnout with more regularity than minorities and younger voters, even adjusted for education. Republicans are not capable of the turnout collapse that Democrats experienced in 2014.

If you don't like birthright citizenship...work on a constitutional amendment. If you are too lazy to do that, and do the hard work convincing the majority of Americans you are right...well, then you've answered your own question if that is what Americans want or not.
