The denunciations of the SSPX consecrations are out of all proportion. They immediately affect the membership - barely a couple of thousand people, including tertiaries. Those who go to SSPX Masses add up to perhaps a million, a lot of people but a tiny proportion of Catholics. Numerically it's hardly a blip. The significance, therefore is not numerical; it is important as a matter of principle. But here I still don't understand the amount of ink spilled in sometimes hysterical articles by commentators, especially those who consider themselves to be orthodox. Surely for every word said about the consecrations, there should be a ream written about the Germans, the Chinese, Study Group 9, Rupnik and other cover-ups, and dodgy ecclesiastical appointments? These are much, much bigger issues for faithful Catholics than the consecration of SSPX bishops. ..... unless of course, there is a subconscious recognition that here lies the real battle for the Truth.....

Il faut être clair : on nous présente souvent la situation actuelle comme un gouffre. D’un côté Rome, de l’autre la FSSPX, et entre les deux un abîme infranchissable. La réalité est beaucoup plus nuancée. La FSSPX elle-même, par la voix de Mgr Fellay, accepte volontiers 95 % de Vatican II. Le Concile a produit des textes réels sur la Révélation, sur l’Église, qui se lisent dans la continuité du magistère antérieur quand on les aborde correctement. Le problème n’est donc pas le Concile pris en un seul bloc. C’est d’abord une mise en œuvre catastrophique : d’abord et avant tout sur la liturgie. Et c’est ensuite des passages qui contiennent des ambiguïtés objectivement difficiles à accorder avec le magistère, et sur lesquels nous attendons une clarification romaine. Ces nouveautés sont d’autant plus dangereux qu’ils sont enveloppés dans un langage orthodoxe.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​ Mais, au final, les textes sont acceptables dans la mesure où ils peuvent être lus en continuité avec la Tradition. C’était la positon de Mgr Lefebvre. Dès lors, résister sur ces 5 % n’est pas un schisme. C’est exercer la retenue prudentielle que la théologie classique a toujours reconnue face à des formulations non définitoires. En somme, suspendre l’assentiment sur ce qui demeure ambigu, sans rejeter l’autorité qui l’a émis, dans l’attente d’une clarification magistérielle. Ce que Mgr Lefebvre appelait lui-même une résistance par amour de l’Église. Prions pour la résolution de cette terrible crise et pour le Saint-Père.

@kernow_bull I went through a phase where I was looking for spirituality without Religion. Seemed positive at first but yah. Just be careful and if you do find yourself spiraling like I did, the person of Christ will stop the spiral.

@kernow_bull I would personally discourage Buddhism. Not always but sometimes it has a tendency to open one up to demonic forces. Speaking from experience.

The Diocese of Wichita is doing something right. They have a 195% priest replacement rate (meaning the diocese has nearly double the number of seminarians needed to replace retiring or deceased priests). The vast majority of seminarians come from homeschool or parochial schools. The diocesan Catholic schools are authentically Catholic. Adoration chapels across the entire diocese. Praying for vocations is part of every parish’s culture. Weekly Mass attendance is through the roof. Liturgies are reverent and embrace tradition. If I’m a Catholic bishop, I’m looking at this diocese and taking notes. The blueprint for Catholic renewal in the USA is in Kansas.

I’m not a SSPX regular. I have attended their masses from time to time, especially when traveling. I think given everything that’s happened since the council the only position one should have towards them is charity & gratitude. There are places, especially in Europe, where the SSPX is the only remotely & recognizably Catholic option in town. During COVID they were the only place to go. I’ve never heard or seen anything remotely not Catholic or Sede like at a SSPX Mass. Going back to 1988 will be utterly tragic. No matter what happens I will never act uncharitably towards them & I’m shocked so many people on this app slander them so easily.
