Stuff like this is going to go viral until the heat death of the universe because people (correctly) assume homelessness is a solveable problem that should not exist and then (incorrectly) presume the root problem is hoarding/extortion and not a severe undersupply of housing

@DreadPirateEsk @brumalspectre I play fighting games and do other nerd stuff if there's more than one person or I'm even slightly out of the know and people's conditions change frequently in our group I've kind of defaulted to they for anyone that doesn't present as a bear.

@brumalspectre Yeah, I tried to do this briefly and I'm not sure it really works. In some circles, though, we have so many non-binary people that we all start saying "they" as default by accident! That's not even a queer group. That's just local nerds. So it's a queer group.

I got radicalized this week. I told the property tax review board that violent drug addicts (homeless) were preventing my child from walking freely in our neighborhood and that our property taxes should be reduced. “The unhomed are not a reason for property tax reduction. They are in all the parks all over the city.” (Paraphrasing) The city’s position was effectively that we should be paying more taxes despite receiving worse services (enforcement of local law). Sure, from a legal standpoint, the city may be correct, and I understand that I was not speaking to the department directly responsible for the problem, but man…what a slap in the face. No “I’m sorry but…” no “hey, I feel you on that but…”, just a cold hearted confident admission that this problem doesn’t matter, won’t change, and a demand for more money, or they will seize your house.
