Concern works to support communities which have been impacted by climate disasters and help to build their resilience against future hazards. Since 2021, we have worked with communities in Nsanje District, Malawi, an area that is highly vulnerable to floods and food shortages. At a community level, Concern facilitated the implementation of action plans, incorporating nature-based solutions, early warning systems, flood-resilient housing, and climate-adaptive livelihood initiatives. “We’ve already started using what we learned. For instance, during Cyclone Freddy, our committees were on the frontline helping affected people, rescuing and searching for them, and finding evacuation centres,” explains local committee member Stanley Magalasi. Concern is a proud member of the Zurich Climate Resilience Alliance, which impacted 3.14 million people between 2018 and 2024. Concern welcomes the Irish government’s announcement today of an increase in Official Development Assistance for 2026. “Coming at a time when other countries are slashing their aid budgets, and support for some of the world’s poorest people is being cut, today’s announcement is a beacon of light in the midst of a very dark storm.” ⤵️ bit.ly/48RdfNu #Budget2026

Concern Worldwide UK's Executive Director Sayyeda Salam speaking at the launch of the global Humanitarian Memorial in London today: "Humanitarian organisations, many of them represented here today, have lost colleagues in recent months. ...This memorial is a place to honour them. But it is also a reminder to us — to keep speaking up for their protection, to celebrate and stand up for the values they lived by, and to keep carrying forward their work with courage and compassion."

The first global Humanitarian Memorial was launched today by HRH the Prince of Wales @KensingtonRoyal in Gunnersbury Park, London. Created by artist Michael Landy CBE, the memorial commemorates humanitarians of all nationalities who have been killed in service, and honours those who continue to put their lives at risk to help others in need. 2024 was the deadliest year for humanitarians since records have been kept, with 383 aid workers killed across 27 countries. Ninety-seven percent were local aid workers, and almost half were killed in Gaza. The DEC supported the Humanitarian Memorial Committee in realising this memorial. Speaking at the launch Sayyeda Salam, CEO of DEC charity @Concern Worldwide said: "Humanitarian organisations, many of them represented here today, have lost colleagues in recent months. ...This memorial is a place to honour them. But it is also a reminder to us — to keep speaking up for their protection, to celebrate and stand up for the values they lived by, and to keep carrying forward their work with courage and compassion." #HumanitarianMemorial See our photo gallery of some the incredible aid workers risking their lives to save others: dec.org.uk/world-humanita…
