Thought of the weekend: Here in Utah, there’s a “based” private school chain advertising: Challenger. Between my husband and I, three out of our four parents were public school teachers and so we were biased towards that greatly. They all taught underprivileged students. They all did their best. Well, Challenger had their open house day and we attended on a weekend. Motivated by my oldest son getting fed by propaganda — he’s in sixth grade in one of the most Republican districts and was forced to watch a video on how ancient Muslims loved Jews and then Christian Europeans ruined that. We found out their second grade standards are well above the expectations of a majority-white, non-poor Utah public school district’s 5th grade standards. And Utah is considered among the best in public schooling. And where I live is considered among the best in Utah. Needless to say, this week has been a huge wake up call for us as parents. If a second grader in a private school is getting a better education than a sixth grader in a great public school without any kind of intelligence or admission testing — Something is very wrong with public schools!

@sjmilhouse1 @BenMcAdams I don’t think we will change our minds either. Overall seems great idea. Wasn’t sure if prop 4 had hidden issues to make drawing maps more difficult. Interesting it was the legislature that didn’t follow the law.

@BeamMeUpImReady @BenMcAdams This would put the repeal of prop 4 up for a vote after the voters already voted to approve it. So basically giving us a chance to change our mind which I don't think we will. The legislature didn't follow the law as written and therefore a judge threw out their maps.

I voted to impeach Trump when he abused his power to undermine the 2020 election. A functional democracy requires that our elected leaders respect the will of the people and the sanctity of our institutions. At every turn, Trump and his extremist administration have undermined voters to protect their political power and pad their personal wallets. Utahns deserves fair maps. Prop 4 was passed by Utahs voters to reduce gerrymandering and restore trust in our democracy. It is the will of the people. Big money and scare tactics from Washington to try to overturn this is not surprising but it is disappointing. I urge all Utahns to not sign this petition and to continue to make their voices heard at the ballot box. Let voters choose who they want to represent them. Say no to politicians like Trump who want to rig the boundaries to protect their own power.

Our Realtor in Oklahoma just sent us 25 listings. Each of them costs less than $350k, some less than 250k. Every one of them would be over $650k in Utah. On the low end. We're excited to move out there, but it tears my heart out to leave my friends. Oklahoma, here we come.
