@ThruTheBridle Bingo!!!!!! Oddly enough, I think all of the vet scratches are working because his horses have been looking better in the mornings lately 😂

@Chrissy_Ottb Why is the trainer held responsible? It’s not up to them. The owner can send their horse wherever they want. Also considering Sonata Stable literally owns the track in Puerto Rico, it’s obvious he will send his horses there who are no longer competitive in Florida.

@paulickreport How embarrassing that you’re cheating with testosterone and your horses still can’t hit the board….at Fairmount

Young trainer Vance Childers will serve a 46-month suspension after his veterinarian, Dr. Donald McCrosky, "intentionally misrepresented and concealed the substances he was administering" to horses running under Childers' name. Read more: tinyurl.com/yfawmhy7

@theTDN @thorntontd How much was the rider fined? Hopefully she’s not so dumb to know she doesn’t need to check before every race.

The stewards at Belterra Park have imposed a $1,000 fine on that track's clerk of scales, Jose Sanchez, Jr., for failing to check the weight of apprentice jockey Summer Pauly before she rode the 3-2 favorite in the second race May 2. @thorntontd reports: thoroughbreddailynews.com/belterra-scale… 📸: Coady Media

@jjbigblue @CardChronicle Staying out of the spotlight like any classy man would do. He congratulated her right after the race and then let her have her moment- he knew it was about her.

@BobbyAtTheSpa I think it’s good they showed up. It showed horses think for themselves, everybody was Ok, and how the sport is taken preventative measures to avoid anything that could be detrimental to the health and safety of the horses.

Am I the only one surprised NBC aired the replay of Great White going over pre-race? For a sport fighting perception issues, that felt like a strange call, especially showing him trot off in clear discomfort. On the biggest stage, why show it?

@DCHI23 That morning line clearly came from someone who can’t handicap international racing, because 30/1 is absurd.

@GhostofSwiftH They don’t do vet exams with 150+ lbs on their back. The extra weight can make the difference. Not rocket science.

@2yovar Hopefully this will push trainers to stop on horses right when they start to show issues, instead of trying to push them through it just to get to the races.

Beyond the debate over whether a horse should or shouldn’t be scratched. One thing is certain: the more advanced and rigorous the detection technology becomes, the more imperfections in a horse’s health will be found. As a result, more and more horses will be prevented from running purely out of caution. And when that happens, there won’t be a single owner or trainer left willing to endure such an unforgiving regime

@GhostofSwiftH All anybody needs to do is go to Churchill and watch training one morning. You’ll see who has the most sore horses on the backside… Mcpeek is easily top 3.

@Shawn_Van_V @PR_ChelseaH I would be willing to bet my large inheritance that if you did a nerve block on all 4 of his legs from the fetlock down- he would jog near perfect. Horses aren’t born moving like that. That’s human error and bad training.

@paulickreport The horse had an abnormal pet scan and his trainer is still complaining? Just because the abnormality isn’t the immediate risk, his compromised movement makes him compensate in other places that puts him at risk.

There were 58 regulatory vet scratches for unsoundness during Keeneland's April meet. There have been 12 through the first four days of Churchill's Spring meet. I did some digging into the numbers; here's what the data tells us, and what it doesn't.

Kentucky’s horsemen and regulators are clashing as scratch rates rise; available statistics offer hints as to how effective the scratches have been. Details: tinyurl.com/7td2fsfa
