For those of you not familiar. The A-10 Warthog is the ugliest, most absurdly beautiful killing machine to ever take flight. It flies low and slow delivering death more intimately than any other fighter jet could fathom. Cloaked in armor, it’s rumored to be able to take damage to 70% of its airframe and still land with ease. It doesn’t need a long or even paved runway. The uppity nerds running the Air Force have decided to “phase them out” this year… yet here they are continuing to “get some”. I personally think that @USMC should take the them over… they fit perfectly in our “take old shit and make it great” culture.

@Chicago1Ray There is definitely an issue with the government when a kid with a cell phone can uncover more crime in a few months than all the billion dollar 3 letter agencies can in decades.

At the very least giving them the mental tools to be able to spot when something "isn't right" is super important in this day and age. I love for it to be different, or at least more like it was when I was growing up and in school. But sadly it isn't, and this is the social climate we have. If we want our kids to have the same values as we do, then it is vitally important that we give them those opportunities to be able to have them, yet not get taken advantage of at the same time. Admittedly, it's a difficult balancing act.

I didn't. I used a Christian private school for my son's education. I get what you are talking about, really I do. Current social climate says that diligence is important to me. And if I didn't trust the social climate before, then I am not starting now. No parent chaperones is a red flag.

Sorry, but I'm with her. In the previous "world" where there was more implicit trust between parents and institutions then maybe. But considering how there have been too many high profile cases of schools (or activist teachers) that have completely broken the unwritten contract between parents and schools. Hard no.

These trips are designed to build independence, confidence, and social growth without parents as a safety net. Schools usually have trained staff, structured schedules & emergency protocols The discomfort is often more on the parent side than the child's. Better approach: • Ask about supervision, safety plans, and communication process • Prep your son (rules, what to do if uncomfortable) • Let him try..growth usually happens outside comfort zones
