Cultural osmosis has muddied The OJ trial to the point that people think he got off because he was rich and not because the defense used the LAPD’s corruption, incompetence around the case, and racism against them which created enough reasonable doubt to get him acquitted

David Simon yelled at me for saying this but the problem with The Wire is that it perfectly breaks down how broken American society is but David Simon himself believed that the system can be fixed without major societal change so the shoe doesnt offer any solutions.

@shagbark_hick My parents bought their current house for $65k back in the late-90’s in rural Pennsylvania but a sub-$50k house is going to be hard to find in 2026 pretty much anywhere.

He caught his wife with another man, and the way he handled it was impressive

FIRE is probably the most soul crushing lifestyle I have ever heard of and it's a terrible indictment on our society. Some of the most competent and intelligent people are structuring themselves to live as minimally as possible so they can check out of society before they're 40. Many of these people are unbelievably hard workers and incredibly intelligent. But they are so disillusioned so all of their potential goes to waste because there's no point to work for more.

when done right...

People listening to their phones on blast in public spaces wasn’t as big a problem when we had jacks for cheap wired headphones

Can someone explain to me like I’m 5 why Adam Driver wasn’t cast as Snape in the new Harry Potter series

A good if periodically frustrating conversation @KnowYrEnemyPod

"Whatever the hell you need to do" is how to sustain a career as a director, according to Barry Jenkins. "I worked at Banana Republic for three and a half years while I had a deal at Focus Features and an agent at CAA," the Oscar-winning 'Moonlight' director and co-writer told fellow director Anu Valia ('We Strangers'). There were many cases in WW2 of German troops treating their surrendered or defeated foes honorably. One of the most famous cases is the Battle of Lille. In 1940, outnumbered and surrounded French troops fought the Germans for 4 days straight before finally surrendering. Nazi troops were so impressed by the bravery of the French that they allowed them to march in formation, carry their flags, and become POWs honorably. Some German troops presented arms and saluted the French as they marched. People who think WW2 Germany was just this evil dishonorable power can't fathom this, but it happened often. Germany had a sense of morality that doesn't exist in the US-Israel leadership.
