I told my partner I was fluent in French on our first date. Five years later, we're moving to Lyon for his job. I've spent £2,000 on intensive tutoring in the last three weeks. I'm currently at 'The cat is under the table' level. I am terrified.

@Mr_Husky1 That’s wonderful! Are you still supportive of people going through spontaneous abortions being able to seek health care without fear of legal repercussions? ❤️ I have a nearly 10 year old too. I am xxxx

”People are talking about the medical necessity of abortion to save the mother's life. I was one of those mothers. I was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer that was cutting off my airway at 20 weeks of pregnancy. I will never forget when the first doctor, an oncologist, mentioned abortion. We had gone thru years of infertility to get pregnant. I knew I would rather die and give birth. Then I met with another doctor who listed all of the problems the baby would have if I did not terminate. I stood my ground and refused. He said, "That is ok. The baby will probably spontaneously abort anyway." I searched and found good doctors that supported me, and I gave birth to a healthy baby at 34 weeks. I will be celebrating 10 years cancer free in May. I have a healthy, beautiful, bright, precious 10 year old daughter who is a living reminder that doctors do not know everything” - Sarah Hull

“My husband just finished this paint job and he made me promise to share it because the people he showed it to ignored him or brushed it off. Here's why this matters. Seven years of severe depression where I watched the man I married disappear completely. Couldn't get out of bed most days, lost his job, stopped talking to our kids. Last year his therapist said find something to work with your hands, so he bought this beat up 1967 Beetle with money his dad left him and I thought he'd wasted it on junk. But he started working on it every single day in our garage. Some days all he did was sand one panel, but he kept showing up. And slowly he started coming back to us. Started smiling again. This paint job took three months. He learned from tutorials and some car groups who actually encouraged him, bought his custom paint from a maker in a shop who spent an hour teaching him technique over the phone. When he showed his friends and family, they left him on read. Just didn't respond at all. So he asked me to post it here because maybe strangers would understand what this actually means better than people who've known him forever. This car saved my husband's life. It's proof that broken things can be beautiful again if you just keep working. And the man I married is finally back.” Credit: Nice Pets/fb

There is a lot of understandable anger here, but several key points are factually incorrect and it matters to separate grief from how the system actually works. Inheritance Tax is paid by the estate, not by the children. Beneficiaries do not receive a personal tax bill. Gifts made in the seven years before death are not automatically taxed at 40%. Many gifts are fully exempt, including annual allowances, small gifts, gifts out of normal income and spousal transfers. Where tax does apply, taper relief reduces the rate for gifts made more than three years before death. The six-month deadline relates to when IHT becomes due, not a requirement to sell a house immediately. Property-related IHT can be paid in instalments over up to ten years. Interest applies, but forced sale is not mandatory. Household contents are valued at second-hand or auction value as part of the overall estate. They are not individually “taxed at 40%”. The £325k nil-rate band is per person, and unused allowances can transfer between spouses. In many common situations, up to £1m can pass to children tax-free once the residence nil-rate band is included. The system is complex, badly explained and stressful, especially under time pressure. That is a fair criticism. But describing it as automatic 40% taxation, theft, or a direct tax on children is simply not accurate. If the argument is for reform or simplification, it is stronger when it is based on how the rules actually work.

I have been sorting out my kids inheritance tax after their mother passed 6 weeks ago. What a nightmare and so unfair in every way. 1. Gifts going back 7 years taxed at 40%. 7 years if bank statements. 2. 6 months to pay IHT bill whilst burying, grieving, getting valuations, gathering 7 years bank statement, 6 months of bills, prepping house for sale (to pay the tax they have to sell their home), court then probate, selling the house. Just 6 months to do this or 7.5-8.5% interest applies!!! It’s an impossible target to meet. 3. Content valuation of table chairs, pictures and ornaments taxed at 40% This is money she paid a huge tax bill on just 3 years ago after my 32 years of work building a business and giving out over 5,000 jobs. Now just 3 years later another 40% (after tax free amount £325k jointly). It’s theft in every way. My kids (young adults) life horrified and created a lot of anxiety trying to get things valued and sold whilst burying their mother. Disgusting @Keir_Starmer a disgrace the human race and my country. Get out or get thrown out.

@Jenny_1884 Thinks: if SP is now classed as a benefit well below the min wage, why aren't pensioners automatically entitled to other low-income benefits like free health care and winter fuel subsidy?

Why is the National Living wage approximately £23K per year & yet Pensioners are only paid approximately £12K? That is nearly half the minimum wage. How are Pensioners expected to survive on that amount if they have no other income?

Spoke with a small business owner this morning He broke down his numbers: When he sells £100 of work, the customer pays £120. Here’s who ends up with the money: VAT: £20.00 Corporation Tax: £25.00 Dividend Tax: £29.51 ——— Total to HMRC: £74.51 No wonder small businesses are struggling.

“UK mum here … shocked today!! My 6 year old daughter came home from school telling me there had been a nurse in today to talk to them all about the flu Vaccine they are given … I said “it’s okay babe you won’t be having it” Her reply was: “mummy I WILL” I said “no baby you don’t need it” She said: I HAVE to get it, the nurse said so and all my friends are!” I had to use a child friendly way to explain why she won’t be … She even came home with a sticker I’ve pictured below! Shocking they’re now talking the children into believing it’s right at just age 6! But my question is: should I keep her off school the day the other children get it? Luckily two parent friends of mine agree with me in my daughter’s class, and they also won’t be getting it. So when I explained this to my daughter she was fine and content knowing two of her best friends were also not getting it. But I’m worried about her breathing it in? Will she be fine? She’s not missed a day off school in 2 years, I don’t want to keep her off but should I?”

My daughter woke up this morning and the first thing she said was, "Mama, today I'm eight and I want to look like a princess." I smiled, but inside my heart was breaking a little. Money's been tight since the divorce, and I'd been worried I couldn't give her the kind of birthday she deserved. But then I remembered that dress hanging in my closet, the one I'd found at a consignment sale months ago and tucked away for something special. When I pulled it out, her eyes went wide. "Is that... is that really for me?" The white lace, the delicate sleeves, the soft bow at the waist. It fit her perfectly, like it had been waiting just for this moment. I did her hair in those long curls she's always wanted, added the little crystal headband I'd ordered from a sweet crafter on the Tedooo app who makes custom hair accessories for flower girls and first communions. She stood in front of the mirror, hardly breathing, then whispered, "I look like I'm going to a ball." "You look like you," I told her. "Just the most beautiful version." Before we left for her small party with family, she insisted I take this photo. She stood by the column in our dining room, one hand resting there like she'd seen models do, trying so hard to look grown up while still being so wonderfully, perfectly eight years old. "Can we post it?" she asked. "I want everyone to see." So here we are. My baby girl, dressed up for her birthday, hoping for hearts from people who might not even know her but who can see what I see: a child who deserves to feel special, to feel seen, to feel celebrated on the one day that's completely hers. She's been checking my phone every few minutes, counting each reaction like they're birthday wishes. And in a way, they are. Each one is someone taking a moment to tell my daughter that yes, she matters. Yes, she's beautiful. Yes, her joy counts. Eight years ago today, she made me a mother. Today, she's reminding me why that's the greatest gift I ever received. Happy birthday, my love. You've always been my princess, dress or no dress. ❤ By anonymous participants
