@DrFrancesRyan It’s so painfully true! It’s a huge hole that guts town centres and the repercussions of which are just massive - my home town of chesterfield has a v busy m&s but the prospect of closure would be devastating to the town centre, I’m not sure how it would survive without it

It gets mocked but if you’re from a working class town, the local Marks closing is a meaningful blow. My hometown Grantham lost its M&S and it was an identity and financial blow. A once great high street becomes charity shops, pound stores, and takeaways. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
