Excited to give a final presentation for Surgery Grand Rounds this week, “What I Learned in Fellowship…But Could Have Learned from Broadway Musicals” 🎶💃🏽🎤 What lessons from Broadway do you think are most relevant to fellowship? 🤷‍♀️ #UroRes #PedsUro

@RohanBhallaMD @VUMCPedsUrology Conveniently omitted that you were picking up your own dry cleaning at the same place and since we are a TEAM you offered to grab mine too. And since we are a TEAM, a coffee on Monday would be great! It’s been a privilege to work with the @VUMCurology residents!

When your fellow asks you to pick up his dry cleaning so he can look fresh at his graduation dinner the only acceptable answer is “Yes sir” 🫡 Really going to miss @BenAbelson here @VUMCPedsUrology Excited to see the great things he’s going to accomplish in Phoenix!

How sweet is the satisfaction when you teach someone to tie a knot for the first time?! Even sweeter when he runs up to you a few minutes later and says “Dad, I did both shoes myself and even double knotted them!”

@notoriousGNV Totally agree. Another read that I’ve been seeing more often is the “swirl sign”. Some evidence of the cord twisting, history of some pain, but totally normal testicle and flow.

Educational video “A Knot in the Nut” created for parents, boys, school nurses. After viewing: ✅ Parents less likely to wait to take son to ED ✅ 85% of nurses would rec going straight to ED ✅ 96% boys would seek immediate help 💪 work, @BenAbelson @VUMCPedsUrology #AUA22

Testicular #torsion: Pre-hospital patient delays ⬆️ risk of orchiectomy and atrophy. Also note ➡️ misdiagnosis had longest time to presentation, highest odds of orchiectomy. @MeliseKeays #AUA22 Education needed! See next tweet…

Great work, Viktor. So important to discuss ileovesicostomy as an option for these patients.

My son is DJ’ing in the car…“Sam, great music choices! What are you playing?”… “I don’t know, I searched for Dad Music.” Way to know your audience, Sam! Great playlist by the way. open.spotify.com/playlist/6IJ4i…

@JoeSilletti There is a service called Federation Credentials Verification Service through Federation of State Medical Boards but it’s expensive to enroll, charges per distribution, and doesn’t work as well for credentialing as it does for state medical board apps

PSA to anyone who is ever going to need credentials at a hospital: Keep a secure file with med school diploma, NBME score reports, training program verification letters/certificates, malpractice coverage proof, state license verifications, DEA #'s etc...you'll thank me later

@lilppmd Thanks Dr. Jayanthi--great point! I came to terms with this on day 1 of fellowship...training is all about learning the tools to answer questions, NOT learning all the answers.

@BenAbelson Just remember, you never stop learning! Focus on how you will maintain an attitude of learning after fellowship. With that, you will be fine. No one learns “everything they need to know” during training. That is a myth.

Started the season with high hopes for my hometown (@Browns), current hometown (@Titans) and future hometown (@AZCardinals). I had fantasies of a “win-win” super bowl. Well, so much for that. @JenniferAbelson your approach to football leads to so much less heartbreak 💔

I’m now paging myself over and over for kid’s entertainment. Clearly she doesn’t have the same PTSD reaction to tone pages that I do.

@pedsurologist @JuddMoul @LiMingSu1 Yes! A few weeks ago I was trying to get a stitch deep in the pelvis and I felt the presence of @EricKleinMD across the table from me. Never will do an open RRP in peds but techniques are absolutely applicable.

@JuddMoul @LiMingSu1 Open RRP training is beneficial even for pediatric urologists. My comfort in performing bladder neck procedures in neurogenic bladders comes from having done so many open RRPs in residency.

Do you think there is value in learning open RP even for those who will eventually perform RALP in their practice? This is my debate topic with @LiMingSu1 at ( now virtual) #AUA21 My job is to advocate for open training value in residency programs.

We (urologists) have learnt better the prostate anatomy in the robotic surgery era.
