If the USA wins the world baseball classic, there should be an asterisk because of the last pitch in the semis being incorrectly called a strike

@jasonfitz You could set it up so the teams with better records have to win fewer games to win the draft tournament. It would incentivize everyone to try to be at least 7th best.

This would only incentivize more good teams to tank. If I know I have a pretty good roster but not good enough to win it all, I tank all season until the tournament knowing my team is actually better than the rest come tourney time. This won’t solve anything.

DEVELOPING: The NBA is discussing creating a tournament among lottery teams to determine draft order in order to stop tanking. (via @ShamsCharania, h/t @flasportsbuzz)

@BenjySarlin If they did it correctly they could generate more $ with a tourney making easier to shrink the schedule. More healthy good players in the playoffs ideally, killing 2 birds at the same time.

Adem Bunkeddeko, a Democrat running for NY Comptroller, is proposing something completely novel — having the state pension fund buy a stake in the Knicks & Rangers. Why? MSG Sports is highly undervalued. And when the Dolans eventually sell the team, the gains could be enormous.

@MikeGrunwald Must be forgetting the 2024 campaign, which was notoriously about who was going to do a better job of making junk food prices higher!

I know it's dumb to be surprised by anything these days but I'm genuinely stunned that MAHA is excited about replacing corn syrup with sugar in Coke. RFK Jr. himself said sugar is poison! This is just changing the lipstick on the pig, to more expensive imported lipstick.

These are possibly the worst that Susan Collins' numbers have ever been in her 30 years in office and yet there is not a single credible challenger running against her. The best Democrats have right now is...*checks notes* Katie Porter's former staffer.
Taniel@Taniel

Quite the UNH poll of Maine: Governor Janet Mills' favorability is 51/41 Senator Susan Collins' is ... 14/57. Among independents, Collins' favorability is a startling 8/60. scholars.unh.edu/survey_center_…

One really striking change from 2017 is how much lower conservatives’ projections are for economic growth resting from the tax bill But you do have to see why the GOP leadership may not have seen rerunning the Ryan playbook as politically tenable washingtonpost.com/business/2025/…

One fundamental dynamic in the current GOP tax bill is that the 2017 Paul Ryan formulation — business credits, corporate tax revamp — had wonk support but not the political juice The 2025 formation has far more in the Trumpist mold — flashy ideas like no tax on tips — but far less support among even the conservative policy community

Does DOGE have a tip line? What if - and hear me out because this is a little complicated - rather than destroying the medicine to stop the spread of AIDS, we give it to people in need?

Is it going to make Guatemala a more or less livable place to take $700 million out of its economy every year? All to give Elon Musk a bigger tax break.

Buried in this story is a line that @marcorubio plans to terminate funding for the @UNFAO which provides the preeminent measure of GLOBAL FOOD PRICES. The Trump admin strategy to bring down the price of food is to just defund the organization that measures food prices?

There's a coverup happening in the Trump administration. @John_Hudson & @Reinlwapo scoop that the acting USAID Inspector General is hiding a report showing the devastating consequences of Elon Musk's assault on life-saving humanitarian assistance. Even Congress can't access it.
