@EpicSpheal It’s hard to explain without playing it, but you can FEEL the intentional design choices the developers made and how specific mechanics interact with each other in ways that aren’t explicitly spelled out to the player, just some fucking solid old school game design

FRLG being released on the switch has been great in helping people understand and appreciate Kanto in non-genwunner or TPCI over-pandering way. Because Kanto did a LOT right which is why we've been able to have such a global powerhouse of a franchise for 30 years

Kanto isn't my favorite region but it's hard to argue it's not the best one in terms of pacing. The way content is spread out across the game is exceptional even taking the entire genre into account.

@linkkling It’s more so that exp share in modern Pokémon is overturned to the point where your Pokémon will easily outlevel every enemy unless you are constantly switching party members. The boredom of steamrolling every battle outweighs the boredom of grinding easily imo

i don't think i've ever gotten a good explanation of how to play pokemon without the exp share... like i know it involves switch training and rearranging your team all the time and farming exp from chanseys but i just don't get why people prefer that. it's so inconvenient
