Without hysterics we should have a frank discussion of what’s at stake for our nation’s children: our vaccines are safe, they work, and have eliminated our worst/ancient childhood scourges. The risk: left unchecked and as proposed by this new alliance we could see their return

@ElBeardsley Beautiful story, very well written and worth reading. According to the card, it looks like M. Minot lived in St Germain des Prés (at least after the war), at 55 rue de Sevres. This building looks post-war, though.

Special Counsel Jack Smith asked the federal judge overseeing the election interference case against President-elect Donald Trump to cancel all upcoming court deadlines following his election win, in a step toward dropping the case. Smith said gov't would update by 12/2. @cstrohm reports: bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Rudyard Kipling's timeless advice from 1911 to those seeking to those advocating making peace with Russia by buying it off with Ukrainian territory: "It is always a temptation to an armed and agile nation, To call upon a neighbour and to say:— "We invaded you last night—we are quite prepared to fight, Unless you pay us cash to go away." And that is called asking for Dane-geld, And the people who ask it explain That you've only to pay 'em the Dane-geld And then you'll get rid of the Dane! It is always a temptation to a rich and lazy nation, To puff and look important and to say:— "Though we know we should defeat you, we have not the time to meet you. We will therefore pay you cash to go away." And that is called paying the Dane-geld; But we've proved it again and again, That if once you have paid him the Dane-geld You never get rid of the Dane. It is wrong to put temptation in the path of any nation, For fear they should succumb and go astray, So when you are requested to pay up or be molested, You will find it better policy to say:— "We never pay any one Dane-geld, No matter how trifling the cost, For the end of that game is oppression and shame, And the nation that plays it is lost!"

TV ads in Michigan tell voters that while their votes are secret, the fact that they voted is not - so people can see if they voted. What is the goal of these? To intimidate people from voting?

@emptywheel This theory makes sense. I came to Michigan to canvass this weekend, and the amount of advertising here is like the amount of radiation coming out of Chernobyl.

It wasn’t a hoax. Trump eagerly accepted help from Russia to win in 2016. Read the Senate intel committee report.

Senator @JDVance calls out CNN Fake Tapper's years of hysterical misleading coverage: "Ask yourself a basic question about network integrity. You guys talked about the Russia hoax nonstop...That was totally and preposterously false...You did it yourself. Your network did it."🔥

@MattDursh I took up woodworking 40 years ago, and switched to metric measurements about 5 years in. It was immensely easier, except for dealing with the Imperial world of vendors. It drives me nuts to see my architect's plans for my cottage in Imperial units.

@svdate He also committed federal tax fraud with it. Shortly after the '16 election, he late-filed a notice conceding that he had engaged in self-dealing with the foundation, and that he had done so in prior years. Like so many of his transgressions, it just fell into the memory hole.

Trump had to shut that foundation down as part of the settlement with the New York State attorney general, who had sued him for fraud, including using foundation money for personal and business expenses.

NEW -- Trump went to Valdosta days after Helene hit and claimed he had brought truckloads of food, water and gasoline. Turns out the only thing he brought that day was traffic from his motorcade, which pulled dozens of cops away from storm cleanup. huffpost.com/entry/donald-t…

@jonfavs Trump wouldn’t even admit that he lost the popular vote in ‘16– he set up a commission that wasted millions of dollars on an election he won (by the Electoral College).

@BennettCartoons Ouch. Amazing that Post publisher Will Lewis wrote this with a straight face: "in 1976 for understandable reasons at the time, we changed this long-standing policy and endorsed Jimmy Carter as president." The reasons were what, exactly-the threat to democracy posed by Jerry Ford?

@joshtpm This is just laughable: "in 1976 for understandable reasons at the time, we changed this long-standing policy and endorsed Jimmy Carter as president." What, because of the threat posed to the Republic by (checks notes) Gerald Ford?

Laughable. As I said, I don't care about endorsements. I'm not sure they serve any purpose. But this isn't why the Post is getting out of the endorsement biz. And the core responsibility of any news publications is to tell its readers the truth. wapo.st/3YmeD3T
