Imaginary oil sells for $95 per imaginary barrel. Real oil sells for $151 per real barrel on Dubai's market. Which type of oil would you like to fuel your needs?

@Khuze_Elikhulu The FinMin should rethink the fuel taxes. If we keep them, they should operate inversely to price movements and support inflation management.

We need to urgently rethink our taxes on fuel. The FinMin should consider a different model and urgently present a Rates Bill to Parliament (if we want to keep them). The taxes should operate inverse to price movements, and this will work with inflation management.

‼️Dubai Physical crude is trading at around $45 premium to Brent (as flagged by @ryanlemand) on our show today - with futures not necessarily reflecting the tightness in physical markets Kirill Dmitriev just posted "paper will catch up to physical" Keep an eye on the physical market

The TRC Cases Inquiry is an important process to answer an intriguing (& troubling) question: why did democratic SA not prosecute apartheid cases identified by the TRC? This is as much an anti-impunity as a rule of law issue.

WATCH | Former National Director of Public Prosecutions Vusi Pikoli says political interference severely undermined efforts to investigate and prosecute apartheid-era crimes that were not granted amnesty by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

@franstaar In Achebe's 'Things Fall Apart' I would argue in fact that it makes the point that the importation of an overly formalistic colonial form of process runs counter to long standing communal approaches to genuine truth seeking and attempts to resolve community level conflicts

@franstaar To apply the reference - they are colonial style (Enlgish, not French) extensions of the court room. Surely, this could not be further from what is envisaged?

@RyanCoetzee Ryan, we likely won't agree on the framework for this answer, but mechanically, all appropriations proceed from the same place and precede tax collection. The question in my view is less where the money comes from and more about deciding what are the available real resources.

At its heart, the average SA Commission appears to be nearly entirely dedicated to job creation for lawyers and to fill a growing broadcasting vacuum for news.

Do lawyers advise their clients not to litigate on matters they see that they won’t win or it’s about getting paid heavy legal fees? Because some matters we see being presented by lawyers makes one to loose confidence in lawyers.
