Crunched some basic numbers on the new budget capital gains changes. In short, anyone who thinks they (or their parents etc.) have a life expectancy of 5 years or less, and has significant unrealized capital gains, should likely trigger most or all of those gains soon

@FedGoesBrrrr I guess you do! But don't forget you still pay the old 50% inclusion rate on any gains up to $250k during a year

@BenjaminKleinBW Do you get extra lift out of selling capital losses after June 25?

@mattsmithabb My understanding is your estate can use the exemption. But of course it only works for qualifying private corporations, not for public investments (stocks, ETFs etc)
