For whatever reason, I decided to read American Psycho last week.
Imagine my surprise to find that the lead sociopathic character, Patrick Bateman, idolizes Donald Trump.
The book mentions Trump dozens of times.
It was published in 1991.

I have a PhD in political science from Oxford, focused on US foreign policy; worked as a State Dept. official in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the Middle East; and wrote a celebrated foreign policy book taught at universities like Princeton. That's why I get geopolitical questions.

@AmericanGwyn I told them that the book was perpetually alive in the present day..that you felt like the characters were walking around right now..that it was not an "old" book.

@BenjaminPritch5 Genuinely interested to know if there’s a word you use to describe this quality? I’ve been sitting here thinking about it. “Timeless” doesn’t quite get at it. There’s got to be something better.

I first read MOBY-DICK in 1997 and couldn’t believe how contemporary it felt. It’s uncanny how Melville’s novel speaks to each generation with such strange urgency. It feels almost untethered from the context in which it was published or written.

The truth is, no pundit, influencer, or anonymous furry has a clue as to what Trump is going to do tonight.
