AC unit stopped working So I opened it. Did bunch of tests. Couldn’t find anything wrong. Checked the Furnance. All good. Connected R and Y wire and AC worked. So thermostat was the issue. Bought a new thermostat. While connecting it, I shorted the Furnance. Now Furnance mechanic is repairing it. $800. Could have just called him at start and saved myself $500 ($150 for thermostat and $150 for the mechanic). But then I am a super smart person who thinks he is an engineer first and a suburban dad later!

Any sufficiently powerful universal machine can be used to make a new version of itself. It can also be used to design a more resource efficient version of itself, unless it is already at peak efficiency but biology shows that is not true. This is why as AI gets smarter, it will also get cheaper.
