New pod: IS THIS THE CHINESE CENTURY?
That's the question I asked China experts @RushDoshi and Kurt Campbell on today's show.
Their answers stunned me.
"The Chinese cannot believe what we are doing," Campbell said. Trump's assault of American science and global alliances is like a fantasy dream for Chinese imperialism. Things that Beijing could only dream about over a 10-year horizon—like the decline of America's reputation as the top destination for global talent, and our lead in science—we are set on destroying in a matter of weeks.
Meanwhile, as Doshi points out, China is dominating the manufacture of may of the world's most important materials and products:
- In a world built of cement and steel, China makes 20 times more cement and 13 times more steel than the U.S.
- In a world whose future will be full of electric vehicles, batteries, drones, and solar power, China makes two-thirds of the world’s EVs, three-quarters of its electric batteries, 80 percent of consumer drones, and 90 percent of solar panels.
- In a world where wars are won by the largest militaries, China’s navy is on pace to be 50% larger than the US by the end of the decade.
I'm a huge patriot. America is richer, and freer, than China. We have many advantages. But only if we actually choose to take advantage of them. I think the last 100 days have profoundly increased the odds that we are currently in one of those once-in-a-century handoffs between global powers.

#USC could really use Kyle Sturdivant's ability to create for others this year.
He's blowing by #FloridaState's defenders and getting into the lane whenever he wants.
I will never understand people who see tragedies like the murder of Breonna Taylor and decide to play devil’s advocate. The devil doesn’t need advocates, justice does.
