@PattersonSonny @TheCartoonLoon Would you rather be orphaned or dead? There is no single “tie breaking vote”. Thats a phantom. Every blue vote in a 50%+1 result is the tie breaker. Switching any switches the outcome. All are equally necessary and worthwhile.

@TheCartoonLoon He hits red. You hit blue. He's orphaned. Oops. Besides, if he votes blue your vote won't* save him. * unless the vote is perfectly split 50/50 and your vote breaks the tie.

@OutOfKenTroll @neil_chilson Tens of millions of kids pressing the button are 8,9,10,11 months old. They can’t read. They don’t understand the question. They are pushing whither colour they like.

@TrueSlazac Blue would still win. It’s still an “everyone on earth” question, so you will immediately think “a lot of young kids and the elderly are going to get in without realizing the risk, likewise the infirm…” and from there you have already decided to get in.

im confused by people saying the right answer is pressing red. the good outcomes are 51% of ppl press blue OR 100% of people press red. the second is obvs way less likely

@fimbres_paul @EckertAnthony @Aella_Girl The violence you worry about here is that you might feel bad that they died? As opposed to the real violence of them being killed? It would be painful to lose so many gentle and good, and be left with “my pit bull can run off leash at the playground” as more common than before

@BillaudHPF @EckertAnthony @Aella_Girl No, I understand the perspective. I just don't accept the premise that threatening self-harm is pacifism. It's clearly a form of violence. You can argue you think the violence is justified. You can't argue that you're not threatening it.

@fimbres_paul @EckertAnthony @Aella_Girl You’re failing to consider their perspective. If only a single person presses blue, the blue pusher dies. You might justify that to yourself as outside your control. Others won’t. Even the highest trust society is a constellation of moral systems. So blue gets pushed. A lot.

@fimbres_paul @EckertAnthony @Aella_Girl As I said, these pure pacifists, who have been acknowledged for centuries, exist in every society, are pressing blue regardless of what you do. Me, not a pacifists, would rather live in a world where they also live, so I’m pressing blue and I’m the one telling people to save them

@EckertAnthony @Aella_Girl Falls apart because even a high trust society will contain a subset of pure pacifists. They would choose blue even knowing it likely means their death simply to withhold the possibility of harming another. Knowing this others will press blue to try and save the gentle and kind.

@Aella_Girl I mean yeah if we got stuck in some scenario I'm pushing blue. but look a true high trust society would all press red. else that means in a high trust society I have to watch for people running red lights. in a high trust society you don't need attention, no need for blue then

Toddlers technically can't vote. It's a limit of mental capability to even understand what a choice is. Toddlers have caretakers. If a toddler is killed, the parent/caretaker is responsible. Or are you one of those people who believe kids should be allowed to pick their gender?

I think I might be able to explain the blue button position in a way that won't piss red button pressers off too much.
Peter Hague@peterrhague

@cjsmall Blue button pushers likely act as if all games are neither anonymous nor one-shot, even when they are explicitly framed as being so. This is the building block of a high trust society.

@cezarybaginski @myonlinetrust You are either confused or intentionally misleading. The question didn’t limit those forced to vote to qualified adults in a federal election of x nation. The question compels everyone to make a choice, as those of all ages and capacities are compelled to participate in society.

@BillaudHPF @myonlinetrust Toddlers can't vote - by definition. The original poll explicitly mentioned voting. If the blue option fails, toddlers will be raised by psychopaths, sociopaths and pedophiles.

@myonlinetrust It’s one of those questions that requires you to think through a few orders of consequence, all the cohorts required to push the button, not just adults of sound mind. Things like that.

@myonlinetrust @cezarybaginski So knowing a lot of little kids are going to press blue, the only reasonable choice is to press blue. Otherwise you are left living in a world of only people willing to kill kids to save themselves.

@MyDeadGramps @DankeyKangMan @ProudBavaria Think of the worst person you know. Guy who lets his pit bull run around off-leash at a playground. Did he press red? You know he did. Think of the people who volunteer to sort donations at the food bank. Do you think they mostly chose red or blue?

Vice-signalling becoming a widespread phenomenon made these thought experiment discussions a lot less fun. They don't even try to make a case anymore. They just look at you like this and expect you to agree that they are super smart and deserve to think only of themselves.

Everyone in the world has to take a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press?

@_resolut @G0ffThew Beyond obvious (how, unless you were the last person to vote), many would still choose blue, or press blue for the reasons I mentioned before. Pressing red is choosing to kill them. All the worst people you know are pressing red. Every villain, rapist. You are left with them.

The calculus to press red is, to put it kindly, short-sighted idiot math. It begins and ends with “what input gives me the best odds of living” with no regard for what the world you’d be living in - where everyone you can trust is dead and everyone else knows it - would look like

@_resolut @G0ffThew You have no answer for the obvious: You live in a wide and diverse society. Many lack the capacity (age at both ends, infirmity etc) to make the red choice and will die if red wins. Others will refuse to make it because they refuse to play any part in potentially harming another.

@_resolut @G0ffThew If you pick red you are choosing to kill many toddlers who couldn’t remember they were told to pick red and picked blue because they like that colour. You are choosing to kill so so many. Better to die picking blue than to live left only with those who picked red.

People are getting one shotted by this non-dilemma. The only reason you pick blue is to save retards who picked blue. If you think for 2 seconds, the game theory answer is to simply pick red. Given imperfect knowledge of the situation, you should pick red, as it’s your only guaranteed chance at survival. Seems like a bunch of people want to make an excuse to die. People don’t have that dog in them anymore.
