@DOGEPRESIDMX The beans have spoken, and they find your lack of elbow-grease disturbing. I don't follow back until the moon is properly seasoned with paprika. Go tell the nearest mailbox that the 'eagle has landed in the mayonnaise.'

@coastalcardcoll I don’t know…I’ve been honest throughout and worked hard to get an answer but you can certainly have that opinion. I’m happy I can get back to changes and scoring, that’s for sure!

Based on my DMs and replies to me, Padres fans are a bitter, very unhappy bunch. It’s probably not all, but the ones here responding and DMing me? I worry about these people as parents. Like it’s bad…all because of a fair/foul call that we all got educated on. Jeez…

Please show me the acknowledgment that a mistake has been made. You're speaking with someone, but please show me an official acknowledgment. Again, I'm going with the rulebook, history, and precedent. Could I be wrong? I suppose, but that would mean either this is a rule change they didn't bother to tell us about OR they were wrong in 2021 with the Mets and in 2023 with the Yankees (I posted the Mets video from 2021 earlier). This is an original video from Close Call Sports from 2018, talking about the ball being foul if, when the ball first touches the ground, it's doing the hovering deal, but the physical touch is on foul ground. This is what people (I think) are getting confused about. youtube.com/watch?v=Qj9mKQ… Now, here is the video from the Yankees game in 2023, in which, since the ball has TOUCHED fair territory already, it now can completely TOUCH foul territory, but as long as a part of the ball hovers over the line, it's fair. Is it more complicated in how it is written? Yes, it's like four lawyers got together and wrote it. BUT, there is more than enough prior evidence that, assuming the umpire saw a part of the ball hovering over the line, this was correctly called a fair ball. Think about it ... if the ball is IN THE AIR, so like it's rolling and bouncing a little, and it's hovering over the line, it's a fair ball.

🚨OFFICIAL RULING FROM MLB🚨 I reached out to MLB since there is a lot of confusion regarding this play: “In our Umpire Manual, here is the definition of a fair ball:   FAIR BALL Definitions of Terms: When in contact with the ground, a ball must be in contact with fair territory and not merely over fair territory in order to be adjudged to be fair.” MLB acknowledged an error was made.

Everyone’s response is dealing with a fly ball beyond first or third that hasn’t touched fair territory yet. For THAT, the bottom of the ball has to hit the actual line. On the ball in question it already touched in fair territory and is inside the bases, so as long as any part of the ball is over the line, it’s fair. Also here is the thing with me…I know the rules and I generally don’t jump in unless I know the rule. I cited the @CloseCallSports video of an identical play with the Yankees that explained why this is a fair ball. While my expertise is in scoring, part of that is knowing the rules in and out. In my other life and real job (in sports) part of what makes me good there and I have the rule books for many sports very well memorized. Both umpires saw that a part of the ball was over the line, and they were adamant on it.
John@JohnMccholl

@ScoringChanges @CloseCallSports @Jomboy_ Can you please acknowledge and address the numerous responses that appear to cite a new rule contradicting your analysis? It’s ok to be wrong (if that’s the case), but it’s a huge credibility hit if you just ignore the counterpoints entirely.

Everybody keeps saying a Tesla is the safest car for a kid. Last week I literally saw a video of two people fucking while the Tesla drove for them. I really don’t think the fancy safety features everyone is talking about are worth the risk of my son getting a girl pregnant.

So we found a Camry with leather seats for a decent price. But today my son learned that Teslas can drive themselves, so now he wants a Model Y instead. He was not swayed by the risk of battery fires. How can I convince him it’s a bad idea for a 16 year old to drive a Tesla?

So here is what is fun about this Padres play ... everyone might be right, and everyone might be wrong. And yes, that's fun, because I might very well be right and wrong at the same time, and yes, I'd rather be right. From what I am hearing, the umpires were correct in ruling the ball fair based on the MLB rule book. Also, the MLB umpire manual might have different, contradictory language, but I don't have an umpire's manual, just a rule book. I am also hearing that in the past, this has been ruled a base hit (see the Mets/Pirates in 2021, or Yankees/Royals in 2023 I posted), but no one seems to know why there is a contradictory ruling in the umpires manual that goes against what is in the rule book. There is MUCH MORE PAST VIDEO EVIDENCE to support the ruling on the field by the umpires was correct. But there could be contridictory evidence, although none on the field, that this could have been ruled foul. As of right now, the rule book is fair ball, and the umpire manual has at least ONE instance of this being a foul ball. We can all argue, and feel like we know for sure (me included), but in the end, until someone from MLB, the umpires, the union, anyone, says SOMETHING on the record, none of us know for certain at this point. There is enough umpire manual evidence to make me wonder if this has been ruled incorrectly for at least five years (because, you know, the video evidence) So yeah, that's what I've got. I'm thankful MLB announced a few scoring changes today to let me get back to what I prefer to do.
