@mayavision My daughter wanted to send you this. (I did suggest writing it, as you can see, but she rarely follows my suggestions)

Poem crisis! 2 years ago my class performed a beautiful poem for Christmas which was about family and unity, being together, etc (not really about Xmas) I think it’s was by B.Zephaniah? Ring any bells? OR anyone have any feelgood, non-Xmas-y Christmas poems? Thanks!

You could go for: “flash, bang span-gle” To include bridges and thus satisfy the criterion of pun-which-will-go-over-childrens’-heads…

@jonnybid 😂 Love it! We usually do all the standard stuff - Guy Fawkes, Gt Fire of London, Diwali, Christmas etc & somehow fit bridges into that! Hoping to use Raven Boy by @pippagoodhart as a class reader (when teacher has read it).

@WritingRocks_17 @The_UKLA really enjoyed the writer vibes tonight. I did some dabbling from a tiny Grace Nichols poem.. write about upside down trees, and got my colouring pencils out (as David Almond advised in the conference!)

Decades of research suggests that reading for pleasure is a key indicator of future success. How can a child become a reader for pleasure if their parents or carers cannot afford books, their primary school has no library, or that library is insufficient? #lifechanginglibraries

@katehitchings1 @WritingRocks_17 @smerchant13 @one_to_read @teacher_mr_r Mine go really up and down. From setting aside 10 mins daily to long periods without. Sometimes use my phone.. When I’m in the flow it’s enjoyable, but getting them going can be hard going. Reading ralph fletcher’s “a writer’s notebook” always helps me with jump starting mine.

@WritingRocks_17 It’s a bit of an Americanism, but I think it’s Calkins that that often tells her kids “that’s really smart” or “it’s really smart how you’ve done this/ that” I’ve found myself using it..

@WritingRocks_17 @TheWritingWeb I’m really getting into the picture book format as a sort of quick idea generation & by planning strategy , particularly for note inexperienced writers. (Works for me!) draw a little, write a little

@WritingRocks_17 @TheWritingWeb After about 2 years of giving my daughter more space (have been a bit “steppy inny” previously) it was lovely the other day when she demanded some feedback when she felt I was not getting involved enough 😂
