Visited Kate's Rise before dawn, and found that the second sign lasted a bit under 2 months. Still not sure what possesses a person to take down a modest tribute sign. In better news, a friend from Tokyo sent me this link to one of her essays patheos.com/blogs/peculiar… A man indeed.

@DrSamuelBrown Ditto. I often ride a trail named Cane Ridge. I say it's my shot of "ridgeocaine".

Yes, I've cost insurance some money on an occasional broken bone, but I think overall this mountain biking brings substantial value to my healthcare.

Definitely more fun (and much more work) than taking a pill, but it turns out that riding my mountain bike every morning for mental health also means that my age 50 cholesterol check is fantastic, both HDL and LDL. Vast improvement from before.

Rollercoaster before dawn is much more cognitively engaging.

Shortly before I realized that we’d hit some manure patches. Still, a lovely holiday ride.

I thank the @RConsortium and @linuxfoundation for their support in making useR! 2022 possible.
useR! 2024@_useRconf

#useR2022 could not have happened without the events team @LinuxFoundation. The organizing committee worked with them to coordinate registration, the virtual event platform & accounting. Members of the LF team include Deb Giles (lead), Nicole Blessing, Ashlee Carlson... (1/2)

Charlotte Briggs Harrell 1926-2021 Today I lost my dear mom, two weeks after her 95th birthday. I feel a great emptiness but I also feel wonder at how could I have been this lucky to have had her as a mom.

Starting today, as we move through this latest COVID-19 surge, we will begin sharing this graphic each week. Our goal is to help everyone understand the value of vaccination. These totals reflect inpatients across our health system. Find a vaccine: spr.ly/6010yvfSq

@mahad_minhas I love and agree with the spirit of this 100% - although in a room of 50+ if I see a few folks looking at their phones I won't immediately assume it's because I'm doing something wrong. Audiences are increasingly heterogeneous and people are increasingly distracted.

From article: CBO says $15 min wage would cost 1.3M jobs, would raise pay for 27M others (~16% of pre-COVID workforce), and bring 1.3M out of poverty.

@WSJ figure yesterday. Why display actual more prominently? Why not extrapolate 2020 dollars? Min wage earners in 1968 had 70% more purchasing power ($5/hr more) than min wage earners today?!?

@BioStatMatt @fixedintime @fathafrank @CTMQ I wouldn't say it's misinformation. It still has value. It's asked the same questions in the same way since 1972. Without it, we have no way to track religion before the mid-2000s. It just needs to be understood in context. Measurement is hard, there's no right way to do it.

Fun fact: no religious group donates money to political candidates more than atheists. In 2019, 39% of atheists gave a political donation. For comparison, in 2019 it was: 38% of Jews 23% of mainline 18% of white Catholics 16% of white evangelicals 9% of Mormons
