Next week, the Q2 pathways are set to begin. 🚀 This quarter, developers will be joining Rust for Bitcoiners and Language Clubs. Rust for Bitcoiners 🦀 is designed for developers who want to deepen their Rust skills. The pathway focuses on building the Rust knowledge needed to engage with Bitcoin projects, with curated resources, structured weekly progress, and support from peers and faculty along the way. Language Clubs focuses on strengthening programming fluency in languages commonly used in Bitcoin development. The pathway helps developers build the language foundations that make meaningful open‑source contribution possible later on. Participants work through curated learning tracks while learning alongside peers in a supportive environment. Both pathways emphasize peer learning, structured progress, and practical skill development. We’ll also be using the hybrid engagement model designed to support more developers without compromising the learning experience. Each pathway will be running in two formats: a live cohort and a self‑paced track, giving developers more flexibility in how they participate while still benefiting from the Builders community. To learn more about the pathways and join our community, start here: btrust.tech/builders/apply Apply to join the waitlist for future cohorts here: btrust.homerun.co/btrust-builder…

We’ve been on a side-quest, and we have good news from the other side! 40 million Kenyans now have a bitcoin Lightning Address! They didn’t need to sign up for one because they had it this entire time, attached to the phone number in their pocket! Try it: send bitcoin to 0717252303@bitcoin.co.ke (254 is optional). The BTC arrives as KES in their M-Pesa. ⚡ EVERY M-Pesa number works. All 40,000,000. Wallets with LUD-09 support give you a nice clickable link to see your M-Pesa receipt. For example: bitcoin.co.ke/receipt/6528a4…

Lightning⚡ is best known as a network for fast bitcoin payments. But what if the same infrastructure could also carry private messages? That’s the idea behind onion messages🧅. They rely on onion encryption, a technique where data is wrapped in multiple layers of encryption, like layers of an onion. As the message travels through the network, each node removes just one layer, learning only where the message came from and where it should go next. No single node ever sees the full route or the original sender and final recipient. In this article, @Thevelopher explores how onion messages work, how they differ from traditional payment routing, and how they’re being implemented in LND. The piece also looks at why this small protocol change could turn Lightning into more than just a payment network. If you’re curious about how Lightning might evolve into a private communication layer, read the full blog to learn more: blog.btrust.tech/onion-messages…

Congratulations @_frankomosh 🎊⚡️
Btrust@btrustteam

@_frankomosh contributes to @bitcoincoreorg with a focus on fuzz testing, networking, and validation logic in consensus-critical systems. He works on improving fuzz testing infrastructure and QA coverage to detect bugs earlier and strengthen overall network reliability. As part of his grant, he will expand fuzzing across key subsystems such as P2P networking and validation, design new fuzz harnesses, and run long-duration fuzzing campaigns. He also maintains bip353‑rs, a Rust implementation of DNS-based payment instructions with DNSSEC validation, contributing to improved payment infrastructure.

We’re excited to announce the Q1 Btrust Developer Grant recipients, our largest cohort to date. Ten Bitcoin open-source developers have been awarded grants, including six starter grant recipients and four open-source cohort members, including two renewals and two promotions from starter to long-term grants. This cohort also marks a couple of important firsts: support for Cashu development and the introduction of a dedicated research role within the open-source cohort. This builds on our work across the stack, from core protocol development to wallets, privacy tools, and user-facing applications. Learn more about Q1 recipients and what they’re working on here: x.com/i/status/20393…

I just understood the compact block relays(BIP 152) and why it was VERY crucial to Bitcoin's development. This drastically reduced bandwidth and latency by propagating new blocks using 6-byte hashes of tx ids. Instead of full ~2MB blocks, we send 20kbs. Decentralised mining FTW!
