@TheJNS Where are the p-values? Odd that most complication rates were double or triple in the Y/T group and yet paper concludes that complications were similar, while providing no p-values. If the study wasn’t powered then can’t draw that conclusion. If it was powered, show the numbers!

@markus85cali @d4w5pjyqgz @Cernovich Still not counting accrued interest for Buddy A. That’ll add more years. And the premise of your post is bad anyway. A person gives a decade of their life in training and takes another 10-15 years to catch up to a BS degree and that is evidence they are paid adequately? 🧐

@BlattMD @d4w5pjyqgz @Cernovich Ok, for arguments sake, let's take the average (250k) and subtract 125k (50%!) for net. Still talking about only a decade before the Dr catches and surpasses. The point remains, they aren't UNDERPAID as the post claimed.

@markus85cali @d4w5pjyqgz @Cernovich Ok but most doctors don’t make 160k net of taxes, loans, etc. If you want to assume Buddy B is an orthopedic surgeon, ok. But if Buddy B becomes a family doctor or a pediatrician your assumptions are wildly wrong.

@markus85cali @d4w5pjyqgz @Cernovich You’ve ignored the $300,000 in 7%-interest-bearing student loans your hypothetical doctor had to take out for med school and then pay off before catching up. Also Buddy A is accruing compound interest in his retirement accts for those 16yrs. The gap does not close in 6.

@d4w5pjyqgz @Cernovich Let's say 2 buddies go to college together, and both finish with a bachelor's. One goes doctor route, other straight to job market, getting national average (61k). 10 years before dr hits market. (610k difference). Even at 160k net, that's 6 years to catch up. Or, age 40ish.

@RosenthalHealth Thank your congresspeople and others who decided to tie a hospital’s reimbursement and/or ratings to stuff like “How many patients were counseled on smoking cessation?” and “did you select the appropriate ICD-10 code?”

One more outrage: Today a pre-fab, automated message from "your provider" reading in part: "We want to make sure you had the best experience and have immediate access to information on your care plan." And a survey. Are EMRs the death of real care?

A healthcare rant: husband in ER overnight for hydration and low blood counts cause of chemo. TY EPIC for reams of less-than-useless discharge papers this morning. Here’s what they included: 1/10

Hemorrhagic venous infarct from CVST in a 9 y/o M. On heparin, right sided swelling progressed to refractory ICP. Stopped heparin gtt, have protamine. Taken for hemicraniectomy. Elected not to chase the clot. CVST is a challenging problem both surgically and medically.

@DGlaucomflecken It’s all just advertising. The publisher tracks down all the Ophtho docs in the country and just sells ad space to companies and then mails it to you under the guise of being a journal. I shred the non-glossy ones and put them in my garden compost.

I do think our information gets sold to many of these companies and the articles are all like, “Robotic cataract surgery is the future!” . . . . . . . . . Author is an investor in 8 different robotic cataract surgery start ups

I get all of this delivered to my work address monthly, some of them are weekly. I didn’t sign up for any of them, and they are impossible to cancel. Why is this happening? It’s such a waste.

@DGlaucomflecken When the 80-hour rules started old-school neurosurgeons literally wrote papers and editorials about how neurosurgery residents are superhuman ninjas who never experience fatigue and can see through walls so they should be exempt.

We need to exempt neurosurgeons from the "should doctors work 24 hour shifts" discourse, because I think they legitimately enjoy it. They don't want to stop working. Making a neurosurgeon take a nap is a punishment worse than death.
