Following on the rent vs buy debate: £300,000 house. → Mortgage interest: £12,000/year → Maintenance: £3,000/year → Insurance: £800/year → Stamp duty: £10,000 upfront → Total real cost: £25,000+ year one £300,000 in the Nasdaq instead. → Average 15% annual return = £45,000/year → No boiler breakdowns → No roof repairs → No estate agent fees when you sell Someone else fixes the boiler. Someone else pays the buildings insurance. Someone else handles the maintenance. Renting isn’t throwing money away IF your money is working hard elsewhere. Sometimes it’s the smartest trade in the room.

@Heccles94 When the NHS was founded less than 5% of the staff were non-British. The 5% includes Irish and other European staff. The proportion of non-European staff was close to zero.

The NHS is the jewel in Britains crown. It has been built + sustained by migrants since the day it was founded. It is owned by the people, not the government, and they have no consent to sell it to private companies. Invest in the NHS! RT if you agree Post a 💙 for the NHS

@Heccles94 My experience of Welsh NHS hospitals is inefficiency, over staffing and poor patient outcomes. Forced to use Spire Cardiff (as let down by NHS) which was efficient and everything the local NHS is not. It’s not all the clinical NHS staff but mismanagement and huge waste.

@lediohasballa_ @Heccles94 You are confusing personal service with clinical need. You having to wait 8hrs is a good thing, because it means they were treating people who needed it more urgently than you did.

I’m about to get married, and my fiancé knows I have an inheritance that was left to me by my grandparents. It’s in my name only, and I’ve been saving it for years. Now he’s saying that before we get married, I should put the entire inheritance into a joint account so we can “start fresh together,” or he doesn’t think we should go through with the wedding. I’m 36 already and this is something my family worked hard to leave me. I’m torn between wanting to build a life together and feeling like I’m being pressured to give up something important to me. What do you think I should do? By isitmeaitah

@Blewyn @AlgTrader @samuel_leeds Yeh that’s what Islamic finance is. There’s no interest on the amount borrowed or lent. You do it for the sake of Allah, not for your own gain. That’s why you don’t see much of it because of banks making money off lending.

@ThomasBeyer I have a track record of what I want. And that's for people to stop burning oil and gas for heating and propulsion. Treat fossils as the precious resource it is, to make stuff of use. Not to burn

Burning fossil fuels for heat and motion is literally Stone Age chemistry. Set fire to stuff & lose most of the energy as waste. We now have tech that’s 3–5x more efficient, cleaner & cheaper to run. Clinging to combustion in 2026 isn’t practical, it’s outdated. #JurassicFuel

@AlgTrader @samuel_leeds That means they are paying you to borrow from them. Inflation means the £5,000 they get back is worth less than the £5,000 they gave you.

@Blewyn @samuel_leeds Yes. Agreed repayment plan. If you borrowed £100,000 from 20 different people. Unless one of them needs money urgently. You pay back £5,000 back to each person every time you save it up. Very easy to save up since you no longer need to pay rent

Apparently this isn’t bullshit. 😯 Tehran has long wanted legitimacy and prestige in ‘the street’ of the Arab world - one reason it fully embraced cause of Palestine, besides actually believing in it. Standing up to Washington & Tel Aviv provides that.

Nothing after this line matters. There is no reason, ever, under any circumstances, in any universe, where it is appropriate for a man to make this statement about his wife. True or not. With or without her permission. This is her story, not “theirs.” THIS is what is wrong with Evangelicalism.
Dr. Kevin M. Young tweet media
Trevor Sheatz@TrevorSheatz

My wife was formerly promiscuous. I was a virgin. She was then radically born-again. Committed to church, evangelized constantly, Puritan books in her bedroom, prayer journals, grief over past sexual sin, etc. We got to know each other well for over a year, dated for four months, engaged for two and a half, and didn't sin sexually with one another. Our first kiss with each other was at the altar on our wedding day (reaction pic attached!). We've been married for over five years now, and she's been the most wonderful and godly wife, mother to our three children, and homemaker you could imagine. She's more pure than most virgins, as biblical purity has less to with past sins (though they certainly matter) and more to do with one's current posture of the heart and daily decisions to honor the Lord (Matt. 5:8). We're far too quick to forget the story of the woman labeled as a known "sinner" (likely a prostitute) in Luke 7:36-50 who was washing Jesus' feet with her tears while kissing them too. The Pharisees were shocked that Jesus let a public sinner do this. Jesus responded with a parable about debts being forgiven and ended with this powerful conclusion: "Her many sins have been forgiven; that’s why she loved much. But the one who is forgiven little, loves little" (Luke 7:47). Everyone seems to highlight the benefits of virginity, and it certainly is a blessing. But we forget to highlight the benefits of being forgiven much as well. My wife knows the depths of Jesus' forgiveness more than most people, enabling her to more easily live out a life of passionate love for her Savior. A woman or man's past sexual sin matters. But what matters far more when it comes to deciding who to marry is if the person is truly born again, if their repentance is real, if they truly have a heart for Christ, if they truly follow Jesus and obey his commands. "God has chosen what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen what is weak in the world to shame the strong. God has chosen what is insignificant and despised in the world — what is viewed as nothing — to bring to nothing what is viewed as something, so that no one may boast in his presence. It is from him that you are in Christ Jesus, who became wisdom from God for us — our righteousness, sanctification, and redemption, — in order that, as it is written: 'Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.'" (1 Cor. 1:27-31) "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come!" (2 Cor. 5:17)

Rent £1,200 x 25 years = £360k (£1.2k for illustration is less than UK average rent) Same cost over the period in this example. One way you own nothing. One way you own an asset, with the likelihood of significant appreciation over a 25 year period. Even factoring in maintenance and insurance... I'd rather own any day. There's no one size fits all approach, and suitability will be different for everyone. But I don't think your assessment of the comparison is fair. Property seems to get a bad rap on FinX!

The average UK mortgage is £200,000 at 5% over 25 years. Total repayment? £350,000. You borrow £200K and pay back £350K. £150,000 straight to the bank. For nothing. Then you pay to fix up the house. Stuff breaks. You pay insurance monthly. Fees when/if you sell the property. And we act like renting is throwing money away. There is a strong argument for renting.

Persian culture and arts thrived most during Turkic Muslim rule. The Safavids essentially reestablished the Persian state after almost a millennium, and authored the modern nation-state of Iran, for the most part. Persian became a regional lingua franca during the Abbasids. The historical ignorance about this stuff is just bizarre. It’s like thinking you can detach a thousand years of English history from Christianity, from the cathedrals to the literature

This has happened before. There’s a reason the EV transition feels familiar. Because we’ve seen this exact story play out before. 📸 Photography Back in the day, Kodak dominated the entire industry. They didn’t just lead it, they owned it. And here’s the crazy part… They actually invented the first digital camera in 1975. They saw the future coming. They had the patents. They had the technology. They had the head start. And what did they do? They hesitated. They believed digital wouldn’t replace film. They protected their existing business. They underestimated how quickly things would change. We all know how that ended. Film didn’t slowly decline. It collapsed. Now look at the car industry For years, the narrative has been: “EVs won’t take over.” “The infrastructure isn’t ready.” “They’re not practical.” “They’ll never replace petrol and diesel.” Sound familiar? Because it’s the exact same arguments used against digital photography. But here’s what matters This isn’t about opinions. It’s about behaviour. 👉 Over 90% of EV drivers stick with electric once they switch. 👉 Satisfaction rates are among the highest in the automotive world. 👉 Running costs are lower. 👉 Ownership is simpler for most. The shift isn’t being forced. It’s being chosen. Kodak didn’t fail because the technology didn’t exist. They failed because they didn’t believe it would win. The same mistake is being made again right now. It isn’t a question of if… It’s a question of when. And just like film cameras… One day people will look back and wonder why there was ever a debate at all.

John Cleese is a perfect example of Dunning Kruger. Spends all his day tweeting incessantly about the evils of Islam, misquoting the Quran, attacking Sadiq Khan, and making points about comparative religion that are demonstrably wrong. Buddhist extremists don't kill their religious enemies? Go to Burma. Hindu extremists don't kill their religious enemies? Go to India. Catholic extremists don't kill their religious enemies? Go to Northern Ireland. FFS.
John Cleese@JohnCleese

Does this silly little man not understand that Islam is a very aggressive belief system, threatening death to anyone who does not convert to Islam The Buddhists, the Taoists, the Scottish Presbyterians, the Hindus and the Sikhs and the Confucians and the Catholics don't go around shouting about beheading people they disagree with Is this too much for your tiny little brain to take in ? Oh. The doorbell rang. The police I assume...
