As Hargeisa marks 35 years since what they describe as their independence from Somalia, protests are taking place in Borama, the capital of the Awdal region, against the Hargeisa administration. Residents of the region complain of a lack of development and unequal political representation within Somaliland. Protesters are also chanting slogans expressing that they remain part of Somalia’s unity.
