On 18th May, the Republic of Somaliland celebrates 35 years of stability, safety, security, and democratic governance in one of the most volatile regions in the world. Somaliland’s security forces the military army, police, coast guard, immigration and border control, traffic police, and fire brigade have successfully protected the nation’s borders, maintained internal stability, and safeguarded society and democracy through dedication. Somaliland has maintained secure borders with Djibouti and Ethiopia with minimal security incidents, while continuing to counter threats linked to instability in Somalia a challenge also faced by Kenya and Ethiopia. Located on the strategic Gulf of Aden and Bab el-Mandeb corridor, Somaliland has also played an important role in securing one of the world’s most valuable maritime routes, maintaining zero piracy across its secured waters. For 35 years, Somaliland has demonstrated resilience, peace, and effective security leadership in the Horn of Africa.
