My best friends mom let me use her wedding venue for free when my wife and I got married. She had 13 trees fall on the venue property last night. Today she is receiving payment for me using the wedding venue.

Brian got into his first argument on one of my job sites today. Neighbor was very upset with him for bush hogging and had to be removed from the property. Video below.

I guarantee a custom CRM will not solve the current bottleneck in your business. I have a handful of friends who have 50+ hours into theirs. Blows my mind. Have another friend who does ~1mm in revenue and paid someone $20k + to build one out. Why??

@TheGeodexes Honestly if it’s close to the house I will try to help out but outside of normal business hours I am now charging to come give estimates. So far no one has wanted to pay so I am still just giving estimates at my normal business hours.

@BlueCollarInvr Being slammed and still getting the emergency call—what’s your current rule for deciding which last-minute requests get a quote?

I did a quote for a guy two weeks ago. He told a guy I do business with that my prices were too high. No biggie my prices aren’t for everyone. It’s very rural and there are plenty of bubbas with chainsaws and trucks who will do it cheaper. He calls Brian (not me) and tells him it’s an emergency and he needs me to come back out immediately. I told Brian it would be later this week before I could give him a quote we are slammed. The tree fell last night and crushed the guys car. He’s now upset with me and Brian. People are weird.

CDL restrictions are such a pain in the butt. I’m going to the DMV tomorrow and putting Farm use tags on my F550 and trailers. Having a 9000 lb truck rated at 17,500 is irritating. I’m not spending 5 weeks getting CDLs and $5000-$10000 to tow 21,000lbs at most.

I just went through this. If you have someone in house with a CDL that meets the recs you can have him or her train you. I don’t know them off of the top of my head but it’s like 3 yrs experience - super grey. Create your own DOT number, sign up with FMCSA as a training provider doing in house training. From there you just need your guys to do an online theory school - super cheap through whatever provider. Then have your in house guy file the app online saying they did the behind the wheel training at your location. That gets you around getting raped by a school.

@BlueCollarInvr Get busted? Probably bumping up into Cdl stuff next year for us. I’ve been avoiding it, but kind of have to in order to keep growing at this point.

@naelbis Yea I’m just going to run a fleet of F250’s I guess. My F550 gross is 17,000lbs.

@BlueCollarInvr Yeah, the FMCSA regulations and cost for a small business are insane. They aren't even intended for us, they were written for semis. Im getting around it by running a 10k truck and 15.9 trailer because paying $3+k for the CDL and another $2-3k for compliance is obscene.

Tree pricing is all over the place. I was just told I was $1000 more than 2 other company’s on 3 removals and stump grinding. I went to my next quote and I was $7000 cheaper than the other guy on 3 removals and stump grinding. Just figure out the price you need to be profitable and don’t worry about others.
