Many Akwa Ibom people, as expected, have entered a full sycophancy mood defending Governor Umo Eno for purchasing a shoe worth two million Naira while the people of the State are dying in poverty. He is living large while the State is faced with wanton unemployment, with dilapidated schools everywhere. The paid and unpaid defenders of Governor Umo Eno are insisting that the salary and allowances of the governor can comfortably afford his ostentatious and wasteful lifestyle. Some are asking me if Umo Eno was a poor man prior to becoming a governor? Such a question will always be silly to me. Show me evidence of Umo Eno wearing a shoe worth two million Naira before be became a public office holder. Why didn’t he build the white painted mansion that he now has in Ewet Housing before he became a governor? Akwa Ibom people made the same silly excuses for Godswill Akpabio and Udom Emmanuel. It’s a familiar but pathetic excuse. Both Akpabio and Udom constructed mansions when they became governors. They didn’t acquire multi-billion Naira assets with their so-called wealth before they assumed public offices. For the ignorant ones who may not know, the total remuneration (salary and allowances) of a Governor in Nigeria, as approved by the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), is less than 12 million Naira per annum. The basic monthly salary of a governor is ₦185,308, amounting to ₦2,223,705 annually. When allowances (including medical, leave, accommodation, furniture, and travel) are added, the total annual renumeration for a governor rises to about ₦11.5 million. If you believe that a person that earns ₦185,308 per month will or can buy a shoe worth two million Naira, then you’re a joker. How many legitimate business owners will buy such a shoe in this economy? We all know the obvious truth. But let us keep deceiving ourselves. I have attached the proof to this post as published on the website of the RMAFC. You can factcheck me. I know we are a society that celebrates stealing and waste of public funds by politicians. But if you want to defend the madness of a politician, do not use falsehoods that can be debunked easily. When he wasn’t a public office holder, I never said anything about him. I challenge anyone to show proof of me saying anything about Umo Eno while he was a private citizen. As long as he is a public servant, and my governor, his lifestyle and actions will always be my business. If you want to be a sycophant, try and be creative in your sycophancy. Don’t a fool while at it. The man you’re defending, his children aren’t defending him online.
