Deacon Andrei Kuraev noted that after Patriarch Kirill (Gundyaev) publicly preached a heresy condemned by the Council of Chalcedon, he should be brought before a church court.
"The Canons require that the patriarch, who publicly uttered heresy, be brought before a council, and that all ecclesiastical communion with him be severed until a council decision is made," he emphasized.
The deacon also noted that the heretical words of the head of the Russian Orthodox Church were ignored by Bishop Kirill (Zinkovsky), Rector of the Moscow Theological Academy, and Bishop Nikolai (Pogrebnyak), Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the Moscow Patriarchate, who were present at the service. Furthermore, "all professional denouncers of the 'heresy of ecumenism' also pretend they heard nothing," Kuraev wrote.
