@allgarbled Little boxes on the hillside Little boxes made of ticky-tacky Little boxes, little boxes Little boxes all the same This excerpt of a Pete Seeger song was about Daly City in the 1960s. It has been a depressing city for a long time.

@alxgzar In California, everywhere I lived had a privacy fence in the back yard. In TX, most places had privacy fences. Everywhere else, some places didn't have any fences, some had 3ft or 6ft chain link fences, some had fences in the very back, but not on the sides.

@SparkingFIRENC I had a small disappointment that my account dropped below a particular goal, but that was it. I'm not worried about this and I'll get back to my goal eventually.

@themoviedadsc Most of my friends have moved to larger houses and when we bought ours we planned to do that someday as well. But our mortgage is low and a smaller house means smaller utility bills. This gives us more money for vacations, investing, and other good things so we decided to stay.

“You should get a bigger home. Why not upgrade?” Because our $1,570 mortgage payment lets us: • Max 2 Roth IRAs • Invest my wife’s entire salary in our taxable brokerage • Fully fund our kids’ 529s • Enjoy hobbies • Take our kids out regularly Low expenses = freedom

@wrowclif You could take a road trip and visit Badlands, Little Bighorn (Custer's last stand), Mt. Rushmore, and Wind Caves NP all at the same time. Although, that trip might not be fun with a little baby.

@wrowclif Since you homeschool, take a visit there in September. It is lovely and very few crowds. Will you have someone in 4th grade next year? They can get a free national parks pass and the whole family gets free entrance as long as the 4th grader is in the car.

@MrsMassacre If you can go in Sept or early Oct, it is mostly nice. There are still the foreign tourist busses though.

Is this what you thought Yellowstone Park was like? Unmoving traffic jams lasting 1-3 hours; rivaling that of suburban areas in big cities. Nowhere to park. Insane prices. Tourists harassing animals, littering, picking flowers, influencers everywhere, sticking their hands in basins and ruining them, no good camping spots left because people use AI programs to snatch up the good ones within milliseconds of the site opening up, and most of your day spent behind Asian tourist busses. The overwhelming amount of tourists have made the park experience unbearable. You used to be able to go there and explore nature peacefully. Now it's worse than Disneyland.

@FinPhilosopher You can pry my analog clock out of my cold, dead hands. Anyone who can't read analog clocks was grossly failed in elementary school.

Smart fridges and washing machines, but no smart clocks? All clocks should be connected in the home, instead everything a minute off. And no one can even read the analog ones

Traditionally, I give lions and lambs for Easter, not bunnies. Everyone has enough studies and some of these kids are grown up, so I'm trying to get creative. May give chocolatiering a try and make chocolate sheep. Or I do have sheep cookie cutter, so maybe I'll start a tradition of sheep cookies.

@CountDankulaTV This reminds me of the incident between Dave Carroll and United Airlines. The moral of this story is never do battle with musicians. They will extract a price that you may be unwilling to pay. youtube.com/watch?v=5YGc4z…

The Afroman Trial. -Cops raid Afromans house for bullshit reasons. -Steal money, break his door, fuck his house up. -No criminality found whatsoever, no charges at all pressed on Afroman. -Afroman spends the next 3 years making songs that make fun of all the officers involved by name, even using footage of the raid from his own CCTV cameras. -Songs had titles like "Randy Walters is a son of a bitch" and "Lick Em Low Lisa" accusing one of the officers of being a lesbian and sleeping with the other officers wives. -During the raid one officer looked like he was about to eat some lemon pound cake sitting on Afromans counter, Afroman made a whole album calling the officer fat. -The cops get mad and file a lawsuit for defamation. -Afroman turns up to court in a whole American flag suit. -Officers performatively mald and cry while listening to the songs really trying to oversell how badly the songs upset them. -One officer was suing because Afroman made a whole song about him saying he was fucking the officers wife. When the officer was asked if Afroman was really fucking his wife, he said "I don't know". Nuking his own case and establishing that there is a non-zero chance that Afroman might actually be fucking his wife. -As his only witness for the trial, Afroman brought a deputies EX FUCKING WIFE. -The jury ruled completely in favour of Afroman. This entire thing has been a great win for free speech and absolutely fucking hilarious.

@dissidntdad Those look good! There isn't a lot of Italian-Catholic culture out west, so I have never heard about these. I do know a few Catholics who make basic cream puffs today.

It was 75 degrees today, a record high for March 18. This winter we have had about 25 days with record-breaking highs. It was fantastic! We are now under a fire watch because of the heat and lack of precipitation. The winter was great, but now we begin to pay the price.
