I would really like to see the violence and chaos surrounding ICE operations go away. Here are a few ideas how that can happen:
1. Put the officers in uniforms. You don’t need plain clothes to make arrests. Obviously, surveillance teams should be unmarked, but the actual arrest team should be in uniforms that are clearly recognizable.
2. EVERY state and local jail facility should comply with federal law and work with ICE on detainers and interviews. This would eliminate much of the need to go seeking dangerous suspects in their homes and communities.
3. Politicians need to tone down the rhetoric. Calling ICE agents Nazis and Gestapo creates a permission structure that encourages activists to confront and assault them.
4. PEACEFUL protest does not involve doxing, obstructing, or assaulting officers. Those that cross the line should be actively arrested and prosecuted for their interference. Groups or individuals that fund unlawful activity should also be prosecuted. State/local police should assist with this.
5. Lastly, just let the officers do their damn job. Comply with orders/requests in the moment. File complaints/lawsuits later. This not only reduces the danger of injury to both parties. But video of a compliant subject can more easily highlight improper violence by authorities, which can weed out the bad officers (which everyone, including police, wants).
